CXXVIII. Instances of becoming boldness in reproving sinners and declaring the truths of religion. 1 Sam. xiii. 13. Samuel said to Saul, thou hast done foolishly, thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God. 2 Chron. xvi. 7, 9.

2 Sam. xii. 7. Nathan said to David, thou art the man that hast done wickedly.

Ver. 9. Wherefore hast thou despised the Lord to do evil in his sight?

CXXIX. The sufferings of the apostles, &c. for religion. Acts v. 41. The apostles departed from the presence of the counsel rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame, for the name of Christ.

ix. 16. The Lord said of Paul, I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name's sake.

xx. 23. Paul said, the Holy Ghost witnesseth in every city, saying, that bonds and afflictions abide me.

Ver. 24. But none of these things move me, neither count I my. life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

1 Cor. ii. 3. I was with you in weakness and in fear, &c.

CXXX. Their temperance. Lev. x. 8. The Lord spake unto Aaron, saying,

Luke xxi. 34. Jesus said unto his disciples, take heed to yourselves, lést at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness and the cares of this life.

CXXXI. They pray for the people. Numb. vi. 23. On this wise ye shall bless the children of Israel, saying unto them,

Ver. 24. The Lord bless thee, and keep thee,

Ver. 25. The Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gra, cious unto thee,

Ver. 26. The Lord lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Joel ii. 17. Let the priests the ministers of the Lord weep between the porch and the altar, and let them say spare thy people, O Lord, and give not thy heritage to reproach.

Rom. i. 9. Without ceasing, I make mention of you always in my prayers.

x. 1. My heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they may be saved.

xv. 13. Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

1 Cor. i. 4. I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ.

2 Cor. xiii. 7. I pray to God that ye do no evil.

Eph. i. 16. I cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers.

Ver. 17. That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, &c. Ver. 18, 19.

Phil. i. 3. I thank my God on every remembrance of you.

Ver. 4. Always in every prayer of mine, for you all, making request, Ver. 5. That he that hath begun a good work in you, will perform it until the day of Christ.

Ver. 9. This I pray that your love may abound yet more and more, in knowledge, and in all judgment.

Ver. 10. That ye may approve the things that are excellent, and that ye may be sincere and without offence until the day of Christ. Ver. Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ unto the glory and praise of God.

Col. i, 9. We cease not to pray for you and to desire that might be filled with the knowledge of his will, in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Ver. 10. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, increasing in the knowledge of

God.

Ver. H. Strengthened with all might according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness.

Col. iv. 12. Labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.

I Thess. iii. 12. The Lord make you to encrease and abound in love, one towards another and towards all men.

Ver. 13. To the end that he may establish your hearts unblaméable. in holiness before God even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.

v. 23. The very God of peace sanctify you wholly, and I pray God your whole spirit, and soul, and body, be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

2 Thess. i. 11. We pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power.

Ver. 12. That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

ii. 16. Now the Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God even our Father which hath loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

Ver. 17. Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word

and work.

James v. 14. Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him. Ver. 15.

CXXXII, Thè supports of Christians in general, of the Lord's ministers in particular, under sufferings for religim.

Isa. Ixvi. 5. Hear the word of the Lord, ye that tremble at his word, your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, let the Lord be glorified; but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed. Luke vi. 22, 23.

Matt. v. 10. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteous, ness sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Ver. 11.

x, 39. He that loseth his life for my sake shall find it. xix. 29. Every one that hath forsaken houses or brethren, or sisname's ters, or father or mother, or wife, or children, or lands for my sake, shall receive an hundred fold, and shall inherit everlasting life Rom. v. 3. We glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation worketh patience,

Rom. v. 4. And patience, experience and experience hope;
Ver. 5. And hope maketh not ashamed. James i. 2.

viii. 17. If so be that we suffer for Christ, that we may be also glorified together.

Ver. 18. The sufferings of this present time are not fit to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us.

Ver. 35. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or the sword?

Ver. 36. (As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter.)

Ver. 37. In all these things we are more than conquerors, through him that loved us.

2 Cor. iv. 9. We are persecuted but not forsaken. Ch. vi. 8, 9, 10. xii. 10. I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: For when I am weak, then am I strong.

Ver. 9. He said unto me, my grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in mine infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

1 Tim. iv. 10. We labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God.

Heb. x. 34. Ye took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing that in heaven ye have a better and a more enduring substance. xi. 26. Moses had respect to the recompence of reward. Ver. 27. He endured as seeing him who is invisible.

Ver. 35. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

xii. 1. Seeing we are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us run with patience the race set before us.

Ver. 2. Looking to Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down on the right hand of the throne of God. Ch. ii. 9.-xiii. 13. Matt. x. 24. James v. 10. 1 Pet. ii. 21. iv. 1, 13, 14, 16, 19. Rev. ii. 10.

WICKED MINISTERS.

CXXXIII. Wicked ministers, their sin and punishment. Lev. x. 1. Nadab and Abihu offered strange fire before the Lord which he commanded them not.

Ver. 2. And there went out a fire from the Lord and devoured them.

1 Sam. ii. 12. The sons of Eli were sons of Belial, they knew not the Lord. See to ver. 17. Their covetousness. Ver. 22. Their un cleanness. Ver. 27. to the end, the punishment of Eli's house.

Isa. xliii. 27. Thy teachers have transgressed against me. Ver. 23. Therefore I have profaned the princes of the sanctuary, I have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.

Jer. ii. 8. The priests said not, where is the Lord? and they that handle the law knew me not; the pastors also transgressed against me, &c.
