MISSIONARY HYMN. 7s & 6s. Dr. L. MASON.
Blessings of Christ's Reign. 1 HAIL to the Lord's Anointed! Great David's greater Son; Hail, in the time appointed, His reign on earth begun! He comes to break oppression, To set the captive free! To take away transgression, And rule in equity.
2 He comes, with succor speedy, To those who suffer wrong; To help the poor and needy,
And bid the weak be strong; To give them songs for sighing, Their darkness turn to light, Whose souls, condemned and dying, Were precious in his sight.
3 O'er every foe victorious,
He on his throne shall rest, From age to age more glorious, All blessing, and all blest. The tide of time shall never
His covenant remove;
His name shall stand forever,— That name to us is Love.
Till every isle and nation, Till every tribe and tongue, Receive the great salvation,
And join the happy throng.
2 Yes,- thou shalt reign forever, O Jesus, King of kings! Thy light, thy love, thy favor, Each ransomed captive sings: The isles for thee are waiting, The deserts learn thy praise, The hills and valleys greeting, The song responsive raise.
1 IN heavenly love abiding, No change my heart shall fear And safe is such confiding, For nothing changes here: The storm may roar without me, My heart may low be laid, But God is round about me, And can I be dismayed?
2 Wherever he may guide me, No want shall turn me back; My Shepherd is beside me, And nothing can I lack: His wisdom ever waketh, His sight is never dim: He knows the way he taketh, And I will walk with him.
1 COME, said Jesus' sacred voice, Come, and make my path your choice; I will guide you to your home: Weary pilgrim, hither come.
2 Thou who, houseless, sole, forlorn, Long hast borne the proud world's scorn, Long hast roamed the barren waste, Weary pilgrim, hither haste.
3 Ye who, tossed on beds of pain, Seek for ease, but seek in vain; Ye, whose swollen and sleepless eyes Watch to see the morning rise; -
4 Ye by fiercer anguish torn,
In remorse for guilt who mourn, Here repose your heavy care: Who the stings of guilt can bear?
5 Sinner, come; for here is found Balm that flows for every wound, Peace that ever shall endure, Rest eternal, sacred, sure.
1 SONGS of praise the angels sang, Heaven with hallelujahs rang, When Jehovah's work begun, When he spake, and it was done.
Songs of praise awoke the morn,
When the Prince of Peace was born; Songs of praise arose, when he Captive led captivity.
3 Heaven and earth must pass away Songs of praise shall crown that day: God will make new heavens and earth Songs of praise shall hail their birth. 4 Saints below, with heart and voice, Still in songs of praise rejoice; Learning here, by faith and love, Songs of praise to sing above.
5 And shall man alone be dumb, Till that glorious kingdom come? No; the Church delights to raise Psalms and hymns and songs of praise.
OH! not alone with outward sign, Of fear, or voice from heaven, 'The message of a truth divine, The call of God, is given; Awakening in the human heart, Love for the true and right, Zeal for the Christian's better part, Strength for the Christian's fight.
2 Though heralded by naught of fear, Or outward sign or show; Though only to the inward ear It whisper soft and low; Though dropping as the manna fell, Unseen yet from above, Holy and gentle, heed it well,— The call to truth and love.
No war shall rage, nor hostile strife Disturb those happy years;
To ploughshares men shall beat their swords, To pruning-hooks their spears.
