Anderson 14 Many 1934 In the Preface to the former volume of these Views, it was hoped that an illustration of our Native Scenery would not be unfavourably received ; and that whilst the pencils of our Artists were so much employed on depicting the beauties of Foreign lands, the attempt made in this work to portray some portion of the grand scenery in which this country abounds, as well as some of the principal seats of its commercial greatness, would not be overlooked. The result has proved that the expectation was not founded on wrong calculationthe success has been so great, as to induce the production of the present volume, which it is hoped will not be found inferior to its predecessor. To describe completely the entire scenery of Great Britain, would require several volumes; but it is confidently anticipated that the two volumes now before the public, will be found to contain a very fair selection of its most striking features, both picturesque and architectural, |
