THE following Collection of Hymns for the Public Worship of the Church is an attempt to supply a more thoroughly Congregational Hymnal than has hitherto been published. It is sent forth as the result of many years' careful and thoughtful study of the subject, and in the earnest hope that it may prove of service in this most blessed part of our united Worship. Common Praise is only second in importance to Common Prayer; and until a Hymn Book is prepared by Convocation, or some definitely authorized body in the Church, no apology seems to be needed for successive attempts at improvement in our Psalms and Hymns and Spiritual Songs.
