Christ is born, the great Anointed;
Heaven and earth His praises sing;
O receive Whom God appointed

For your Prophet, Priest, and King.
Hasten, mortals, to adore Him;

Learn His name, and taste His joy; Till in heaven ye sing before Him,

Glory be to God Most High !—AMEN.

"For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given."

BRIGHT and joyful is the morn,

For to us a Child is born;

From the highest realms of heaven,
Unto us a Son is given.

On His shoulder He shall bear
Power and majesty, and wear
On His vesture and His thigh,
Names most awful, names most high.

Wonderful in counsel He,

The incarnate Deity;

Sire of ages ne'er to cease,

King of kings, and Prince of Peace.

Come and worship at His feet,
Yield to Christ the homage meet
From His manger to His throne,
Homage due to God alone.

Glory to the Father be,

Glory, Virgin-born, to Thee;

Glory to the Holy Ghost,

Praised by men and heavenly host.-AMEN.

"He cometh to judge the earth: He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the people with His truth."

OY to the world; the Lord is come!

Joy

Let earth receive her King;

Let every heart prepare Him room,
And heaven and nature sing.

Joy to the earth; the Saviour reigns!
Let men their songs employ;
While fruitful fields, glad hills, and plains,
Repeat the sounding joy.

No more let sin and sorrow grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;

He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found.

He rules the world with truth and grace,

And makes the nations prove

The glories of His righteousness,

And wonders of His love.—AMEN.

"This is His name whereby He shall be called, The

Lord our Righteousness.'

SON of God! to Thee we bow;

Thou art Lord, and only Thou:

Thou, the blessed Virgin's Seed,
Glory of Thy Church, and Head.
Thee the angels ceaseless sing;
Thee we praise, our Priest and King;
Joining heart and voice to bless
Christ the Lord, our righteousness.

Thou hast joyful tidings brought,
Thou hast full salvation wrought;
Wrought, to set Thy people free,
And to bring our souls to Thee.
May we follow and adore

Thee, our Saviour, more and more;
Guide and bless us with Thy love,
Till we join Thy Church above!
To the Father, and the Son,
And the Spirit, Three in One,
Honour, might, and glory be,
Now and through eternity.-AMEN.

"For mine eyes have seen Thy salvation."

BLEST are the pure in heart,

For they shall see our God;

The secret of the Lord is theirs,
Their soul is Christ's abode.

Thy servants, having seen
Thy saving health, O Lord,
Are ready to depart in peace,
According to Thy word.

They who to earthly joys
In faith have given farewell,

S.M

Now see unlooked-for heaven on earth, Christ in His Israel.

Still to the lowly soul

He doth Himself impart;

And for His dwelling and His throne

Chooseth the pure in heart.

To God the Father, Son,
And Spirit, glory be,

As is, and was, and shall be so
To all eternity.-AMEN.

EPIPHANY.

8-6's.

"They presented unto Him gifts, gold, and frank

incense, and myrrh.'

'HE wise men to Thy cradle throne,

THE

O Infant Saviour, brought of old
The incense meet for God alone,
Sharp myrrh, and shining gold.

Shine on us too, sweet Eastern star,
Thine own baptizèd Gentile band,
Till we have found our Lord from far,
An offering in our hand.

Till we have brought the fine gold rare,
Of zeal that giveth all for love;
Till we have prayed the glowing prayer,
Like incense borne above.

Till bitter tears our eyes have wet,
Because our wilful hearts would err;
Worship, and love, and sorrow met,
Gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

All meet for Thee our own Adored,
Our suffering Saviour, God, and King;
Accept the gold and incense, Lord,

Accept the myrrh we bring.-AMEN..

"That the Gentiles should be fellow-heirs, and of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ by the Gospel.

[ocr errors]

LO! the Gentiles bend the knee,
Sun of Righteousness, to Thee;
Farthest realms of distant kings
Own the healing of Thy wings.

Nations all, remote and near,
Haste to see your God appear;
Haste, for Him your hearts prepare,
Meet Him manifested there.
Hail the Day-spring from on high,
Pouring light on mortal eye;
See it chase the shades away,
Breaking into perfect day.

Sing, ye morning stars, again,
God descends on earth to reign;
Praise and blessing never cease:

Hail the reign of truth and peace!—AMEN.

"A broken and a contrite heart, O God, Thou wilt not despise.'

HOSANNA! raise the pealing hymn

To David's Son and Lord;

With cherubim and seraphim

Exalt the Incarnate Word.

Hosanna! Sovereign, Prophet, Priest,
How vast Thy gifts,-how free!

Thy blood, our life,-Thy word, our feast,—
Thy Name, our only plea.
