exclaim, "Where am I?" And the guiding voice of the Holy Ghost will answer-" In God's world; in Christ's kingdom; in the vineyard of His Church; go, work, go, work; it is high time, for now is your salvation near." Oh, how much better will that be, my beloved, than to sleep on in sin, and presently to be lifted into the cold bed of death, and then to wake up woefully, and say, "Where am I?" And the guiding voice of the Evil Spirit to answer aloud—“ In hell; in hell; with me, and my angels, and the damned.” Oh, be not shocked at these words; I know they are rough sounding words; but the words cannot hurt you; the fearful reality, should you experience it; the putting on of the fetters of an eternal slavery, the chains of Remorse, and Anguish, and Despair, and Death, Oh! this will hurt indeed.

May the great God deliver us from so fearful an end; yet we had better be anxious, and it is high time!

The Queen of Sheba.

THE QUEEN OF SHEBA.

LUKE xi. 31.

"The Queen of the South shall rise up in the Judg

ment with the men of this generation, and con-
demn them: for she came from the utmost
parts of the earth to hear the wisdom
of Solomon; and, behold, a greater
than Solomon is here."

HOW difficult it is to realize our own position and circumstances! How few properly reflect on their privileges and blessings! We study, and pass sentence on other people, more than on ourselves. Certainly one half of the world never reflect on their own real character. In religion this is dreadful. A prejudice in favour of self, and against another, may, like a little leaven, leaven the whole lump of our Christian experience. We may move on towards the grave utterly ignorant of ourselves, and should any one (even with the best intent) cross our path, and say to us"You are wrong, you are wrong!" our annoyance would be the greater, and our prejudice the stronger, until at length,

when too late, we should find out that we really were wrong. Oh! what a blessing to discover our errors and sins; our prejudices and pettiness, on this side the grave, rather than on the other.

Look at the Jews, in the time of our Saviour. Look at the leaders of them; the Pharisees, the Lawyers, the Scribes. As a religious people how deplorably ignorant of their real character. See what pride and what prejudice guarded the heart of the Pharisee. See what ignorance and what fear fettered the common mind. It was an evil generation. The religious man blew a trumpet before him; and Religion was blazoned forth in gaudy garments of worldly fabric. The Saviour of men came. The Messiah visited His chosen. The divinity of Religion was manifested in the holy life of the Blessed Jesus. He crossed the path of the proud and the prejudiced, and He said, as gently as was consistent with circumstances-"You are wrong, you are wrong!" Oh, how annoyed they were! How stung to the very quick! Away with such a fellow from the earth," they exclaimed, "it is not fit that he should live." And they hurried him away to the Mount of Calvary, and nailed him to a tree. And did they gain rest then? No, they were more complicated in miseries than ever. They seemed like a man bent on desperate deeds, until at last, Jerusalem was destroyed, and this was as the bankruptcy of the nation.

But Religion recognises futurity. It draws aside the veil of the Future, and says-" Behold what you
