PREFACE.

THAT every word uttered by Him who "spake as never man spake," should be worthy of our utmost attention, none, who acknowledge him, will deny and it will be readily admitted, that his instructions conveyed under the form of Parables, purposely wrapped for the time in a cloak of mystery, are fit subjects for our investigation in order to develope their hidden purpose, or to elucidate their, sometimes, twofold design.

But when our Lord's Miracles are in like manner subjected to review,- Oh, this is surely needless,' will be the cry of many:
