We

O THOU who only art the Holy One, before whom the spirits of heaven bow, crying to each other, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God of hosts. We, a family of imperfect sinful creatures, would draw nigh unto thee. We would worship thee with reverence. would pray unto thee with humility. We would offer thee praise with grateful hearts. Help us, O our God, that our worship may be acceptable through Jesus Christ our Lord,

We give thee thanks because this morning we are the living to praise thee. Many, since we unitedly commended ourselves to thy care for the night, have slept the sleep of death. Many have been visited with affliction, and in strong pain have longed for the returning light. We have rested in peace; the pestilence that walketh in darkness has been kept far from us, and in health and comfort we address ourselves to the duties of this day. May our spared lives be consecrated to thy service, and may renewed mercies awaken in our bosoms renewed praise. Bless the Lord, O our souls; and all that is within us, bless his holy name.

We do not know what may be before us to-day. From every sin do thou preserve us; from every temptation deliver us; and help us to feel in every situation that we are thy servants, for truly thou didst create us, and not we ourselves. Thou hast preserved us by thy good hand; and thou hast redeemed us,

O Lord God of truth. We will be thy servants for ever. Forgive our manifold transgressions, and let thy mercy be bestowed upon us according to our respective necessities. May we who govern in this house make thy word our guide. May children obey cheerfully as in thy sight. May they who serve, serve not as pleasing men, but as pleasing God who searcheth the heart. And as we address ourselves to the business of the day, may we remember that our portion is not in this world. Help us, O Lord, to seek the things which are above. May we so act that the world may see that we belong to a better country. Let thy fear rule our thoughts, and words, and actions. Help us to trust in the Lord, and to do good. Bless us in the city and in the field; bless us in our basket and in our store; bless us when we go out and when we come in. Be thou, our God, ever with us, and keep us in the way that we go. Give us bread to eat and raiment to put on. Endue our hearts with thine enlightening, sanctifying grace. Feed us with the bread of life and the water of life. Quicken us daily by thy Spirit, that we may live to thee. Deal with us according to the tenor of thy covenant, which is ordered in all things and sure. This is all our salvation, and all our desire. Oh look upon us prostrate at thy throne, and grant us the mercy promised through Christ Jesus. Be merciful unto us as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name, and do more for us than we are able to ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us by Christ Jesus our Lord. To whom, with thyself, O Father, and the Holy Ghost, one God, be everlasting praises. Amen.

UNTO thee, O Lord, do we lift up our souls at the close of another day. We would worship thee without distraction. Suffer not our hearts to be far from thee while we draw nigh with our mouths and honour thee with our lips. We would enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus. Oh grant us a gracious audience, and let thy Spirit teach us how to order our conversation before thee. We hope thou hast made us thy children, having redeemed us by the sacrifice of Christ, adopted us into thy family, and renewed our heart by the power of thine Holy Spirit. May he graciously dwell with us, bearing witness with our spirits that we are thine, and enabling us always to draw nigh to thee with humble confidence and holy love.

Accept, O Lord, of our grateful thanks for the mercies of another day. Thy kindness is unceasing. Temporal blessings have come as we have needed them, and better blessings, even the blessings of thy grace, have not been withheld. Our souls would magnify the Lord, and our spirits would rejoice in God our Saviour, for thou hast regarded us in our low estate, and thine arm hath brought us salvation. O Lord, we praise thee, for thou forgivest our iniquities, thou redeemest our life from destruction, thou crownest us with loving-kindness and tender mercies. We are glad in thee, we rejoice in Christ Jesus. We take him as our Teacher, our High Priest, our King, our All. May he be ever precious in our esteem. May we ever be satisfied in Christ Jesus. Out of his ful

ness may we all receive grace for grace. Renew us in the spirit of our minds, and as thou hast set before us the hope of glory, oh grant us a meetness for the inheritance we hope for. Pardon our sins and short-comings to-day. We are ashamed that we do so little to serve and glorify thee. O Lord, unite our hearts yet more to fear thy name.

And make thy way, O Lord, known upon the earth, and thy saving health among all nations. Multitudes yet sit in the region of darkness. Superstition, delusion, idolatry, widely prevail. Long has man been driven forth from thee. O Lord, gather the nations to thyself. Let the light of the gospel shine upon them and give them peace.

ness.

We pray especially for our land. May all who profess to know thee here exemplify the power of godliHave respect unto those who govern us. May they rule well in the fear of the Lord, and hating all unrighteousness. Be mindful of our poor, and turn their hearts to thyself. Let the widow and the orphan trust in thy mercy. Deliver such as are appointed unto death from the fear which unforgiven sin awakens, and let the ignorant be instructed, and made to understand and receive gladly thy great salvation.

O Lord, we fall into thy hands. The mercy which has encompassed our steps during the day, can watch over our repose for the night. Be about our bed. In wakeful hours may we call to mind thy loving-kindness. Let us not sleep the sleep of death; or if we do, may the morn in heaven awaken us to perfect purity and joy. We ask these mercies in Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour. Amen.

ACTS I.

MORNING HYMN.

"Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory."

LORD, it belongs not to my care,
Whether I die or live;

To love and serve thee is my share,
And this thy grace must give.
If life be long, I will be glad,
That I may long obey;

If short, yet why should I be sad,

To soar to endless day?

Christ leads me through no darker rooms

Than he went through before;

He that into God's kingdom comes

Must enter by the door.

Come, Lord, when grace has made me meet

Thy blessed face to see;

For if thy work on earth be sweet,

What will thy glory be?

Then shall I end my sad complaints,

And weary, sinful days;

And join with the triumphant saints
That sing Jehovah's praise.
My knowledge of that life is small,

The eye of faith is dim;

But 'tis enough that Christ knows all,
And I shall be with him.
