IN presenting the following Selection as a "Love Gift" to the admirers of British Poetry, the Editor deems it unnecessary to offer an apology, or to state any particular reasons for its being at the present moment a candidate for popular favour. The work must speak for itself; and if it succeed in bringing into notice language and sentiments which are comparatively unknown, but which are at the same time calculated to soften the manners while they interest and improve the heart, the end contemplated will be fully realized.
