SIR: In compliance with the act of Congress of August 26, 1842, and a resolution of the House of Representatives of January 13, 1846, I have the honor to transmit herewith a statement showing the names of clerks and other persons employed in this department during the year 1847, or any part thereof, with the time each person was actually employed, the sum paid each, and the residence of each at the time of his appointment.
