This work was first published in the original Latin, in London, A. D. 1758. There have been several translations into English. The last of these, by the Rev. Mr. Clowes, of England, was published there nearly twenty years since. It was revised when an American edition was published, in 1825, and many corrections made. For the present edition nearly one third of the work has been translated anew; and the remainder has been compared with the original, carefully revised, and made much more literal and accurate than before.
