PART I.

HYMNS ARRANGED ACCORDING TO THE

SUBJECTS OF THE CREED.

[blocks in formation]

"The Catholic Faith is this: that we worship one God in Trinity, and Trinity in Unity."

I.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!

Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and Mighty!

God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the
glassy sea,

Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may

not see,

Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love and purity.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!

All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in eartl: and sky and sea;

Holy, holy, holy ! Merciful and Mighty!

God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Bishop Reginald Heber. 1827.

II.

Round the Lord in glory seated
Cherubim and seraphim
Fill'd His temple, and repeated
Each to each th' alternate hymn.

"Lord, Thy glory fills the heaven,
"Earth is with its fulness stor❜d;
"Unto Thee be glory given,
"Holy, holy, holy Lord!"

Heaven is still with glory ringing,
Earth takes up the angels' cry,

Holy, holy, holy," singing,

“Lord of hosts, the Lord most High!"

With His seraph train before Him,

With His holy Church below, Thus conspire we to adore Him, Bid we thus our anthem flow:

"Lord, Thy glory fills the heaven, "Earth is with its fulness stor❜d;

"Unto Thee be glory given,

"Holy, holy, holy Lord!"

Bishop Richard Mant. 1877

III.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord,

God of hosts! When heaven and earth

Out of darkness, at Thy word,

Issued into glorious birth,

All Thy works before Thee stood,
And Thine eye beheld them good,
While they sang, with one accord,
Holy, holy, holy, Lord!

Holy, holy, holy! Thee,

One Jehovah evermore,
Father, Son, and Spirit, we,
Dust and ashes, would adore.
Lightly by the world esteemed,
From that world by Thee redeemed,
Sing we here, with glad accord,
Holy, holy, holy Lord!

Holy, holy, holy! All

Heaven's triumphant choir shall sing,
When the ransomed nations fall
At the footstool of their King:
Then shall saints and seraphim,
Hearts and voices, swell one hymn,
Round the Throne with full accord,
Holy, holy, holy, Lord!

James Montgomery. 1853

IV.

Te Deum Laudamus.

God eternal, Lord of all,
Lowly at Thy feet we fall,

All the earth doth worship Thee ;
We amidst the throng would be.

All the holy angels cry,

Hail, thrice holy, God most High
Lord of all the heavenly powers,
Be the same loud anthem ours.

Glorified apostles raise

Night and day continual praise:
Hast Thou not a mission too
For Thy children here to do
