that I am sick of love.a

Him shew Himself to me.

Let Him appear to me, let
Let Him call me by my

name, and soothe me from my grief.

For my grief containeth itself not within me, so long as I am far away from Thee, O LORD. Come now, O LORD, reveal Thy Face. Shew Thy sup

pliants Thy Mercy. We know Thy Resurrection has been accomplished; declare before our eyes Thy blessed Incorruption. O Thou Wonderful, Priceless, Incomparable, Thee I wished for, Thee I hoped for, Thee I sought. Lo Thou comest empurpled, and red is Thine apparel. Thou hast washed Thy Robe in wine, and Thy Garment in the blood of the grape. Thou hast smitten the head over the house of the wicked, having gone forth for the salvation of Thy people.

Abide with us, LORD, abide with us even until the morning. Let us enjoy meanwhile Thy Presence. Let us rejoice and be glad in Thy Resurrection. The darkness thickeneth; evening presseth upon the day. May our Sun, our Light, Christ our GOD, shew the Light of His Countenance upon us.

But what dost Thou, O my GOD? O my soul, what shall I say? what shall I do? whither shall I go ? Already Thou liftest up Thine Hands; lo, now Thou goest Thy way. The Heavens meet Thee. The skies are bowed, a cloud is prepared for Thee ascending. I will offer only the tears of my bereavement to Thee departing. "My tears shall be my meat day and night." I will feed on weeping; I will give my soul to drink of my sorrows. My life shall wax old with heaviness and my years with mourning." "For whom have I in Heaven but Thee? and there is none on earth that I desire in comparison of Thee." "My soul shall

long for Thee in the night season, and my spirit in my heart shall watch unto Thee in the morning. Meanwhile Thou wilt come to us, LORD, for Thou art good: Thou wilt not tarry, for Thou art loving. Glory be to Thee for ever and ever. Amen.

PRAYER XIII.

PRAYER TO GOD, FOR FATHER, MOTHER, RELATIONS AND FRIENDS.

O LORD GOD, our Governor, Who hast wonderfully made all things, and by Thy disposal hast created them; Who hast bidden that in man and woman should be the provision for propagating their race, and hast enjoined that love should be displayed towards father and mother, hear me, O Merciful God, crying unto Thee for the welfare of my father and my mother, whom of Thy Providence Thou hast deigned to prepare for me Thy humble servant; and also for my brothers and sisters, and all who are connected with me, a sinner, either by relationship after the flesh, or by friendship, or by promise or trust, as well living as departed, whose names and deserts are known to Thee, the LORD GOD of all. Deign, I beseech Thee, to grant unto the departed everlasting life, and defend the living from all evil, and dispose them in the way of salvation; that by means of true confession, and true amendment of all their faults, Thou mayst forgive them their sins, and when they have laid aside the flesh, they may be made heirs of an heavenly inheritance. Hear me miserable, O God most Merciful, supplicating Thee for the souls of all Thy servants and handmaids, who wish and do me well, and serve me, and who have

bestowed on me their bounty, and whose bounty I have received, whose names are known to Thee, the LORD GOD of all, and who have commended themselves to my prayers; that Thou wouldst bestow upon them the blessings of Thy Mercy, and deign to set them in the place of those that please Thee, O Saviour of the world, Who, with God the Father and the Holy Spirit, livest and reignest world without end. Amen.

PRAYER XIV.

PRAYER TO THE HOLY GHOST.

O THOU Love of God, Holy Bond of the Almighty Father and His Blessed Son, Almighty Spirit, the Comforter, most Merciful Consoler of the sorrowful, come Thou now with Thy powerful virtue into the inmost recesses of my heart; and all the dark hidingplaces of Thy neglected dwelling-place do Thou, a loving Indweller, make joyous with the brightness of Thy clear Light; and with the abundance of Thy Dew visit and make them fruitful, drooping with long-parching dryness. Wound Thou the hidden parts of my inner man with the spear of Thy Love; and the marrow of my torpid liver do Thou pierce and kindle with Thy salutary flames; and with the fire of holy fervour enlighten and eat away all the inmost parts of my mind and body. Give me to drink of the torrent of Thy Pleasure, that no longer it may please me to taste of any of the poisonous sweetness of earthly things. Give sentence with me, O God, and defend my cause against the ungodly people : teach me to do Thy Will, for Thou art my GOD. 2 I believe that whomsoever Thou Indwellest, Thou makest to be the abode of the Father and the Son. Blessed, who shall win Thee for his Guest; for by Thee the Father and the Son will come and make their abode with him.
