HYMNS

OF

PRAYER AND PRAISE.

SELECTED BY THE

REV. S. FLOOD JONES, M.A.

LONDON:

DALTON AND LUCY,

Booksellers to the Queen and to the Prince of Wales,
28, COCKSPUR STREET, CHARING CROSS.

[blocks in formation]

THE following Hymns have been selected for the use of congregations in which the Collection of the late Rev. W. J. HALL is still retained. No Hymns, therefore, which appear in that Collection will be found in this.

Next to the Bible and the Prayer Book, the Hymn Book has so often proved the most useful and welcome Companion of the Sick Room, that a few Hymns have been admitted into these pages, more suitable for private than for public use.

INDEX OF FIRST LINES.

Abide with me, fast falls the Eventide
A few more years shall roll
Alleluia, Song of Gladness.
Another year has now begun

Around the Throne of God a band
As with gladness men of old

Bread of Heaven on Thee we feed

Brief life is here our portion

[ocr errors]

Brightest and best of the Sons of the Morning

Christian seek not yet repose

Christ whose glory fills the skies

Eternity, Eternity

[ocr errors]

Fair is the heavenly land we seek
Father I know that all my life
For ever with the Lord

For thee O dear, dear Country
Forth from the dark and stormy sky
God that madest Earth and Heaven
God the Son, our Teacher is

Hail the day that sees Him rise.
Hark, a thrilling voice is sounding
Hark, what mean those holy voices
Haste my soul, thy God adore
Heavenly Father send Thy blessing
Here all is strife and war

Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty
How sweet the Name of Jesus sounds
Holiest, breathe an Evening blessing.

[merged small][merged small][merged small][ocr errors]

Jesus calls us o'er the tumult
Jesus lives, no longer now.
Jesu meek and gentle
Jesus my Advocate in Heaven
Jesus whene'er Thy people meet
Just as I am, without one plea

[ocr errors]

Lead kindly Light, amid the encircling gloom
Lead us, Heavenly Father, lead us

Let me be with Thee, where Thou art
Look ye saints, the sight is glorious

Love is kind, and suffers long

Lord who didst Thy Prophets teach

Lo! when the Spirit of our God

Members of Christ are we .

My God, my Father while I stray
My times are in Thy Hand
Nearer my God to Thee

INDEX OF FIRST LINES.

O Lord my God-Anthem 2, p. 83
O Lord, the uncreated Light

O Love, who formedst me to wear
One by one the sands are flowing
O Paradise, O Paradise

O what if we are Christ's.

Pilgrim bend thy footsteps on
Praise my soul the King of Heaven

Return O wanderer to thy Home

Saviour abide with us

Saviour sprinkle many nations
See He comes, whom every nation
Shine on me Lord, this night impart.
Songs of praise the angels sang
Sovereign Ruler of the skies

Sun of my soul, Thou Saviour dear
Sweet Saviour, bless us e'er we go

There is a Book, who runs may read
The roseate hues of early dawn.

The saints on Earth and those above.

The voice of Jesus speaks to thee
Thine for ever! God of love

This is the Day of Light

Thou art gone up on high.

Thou, whose Almighty Word

Through the day, Thy love hath spared us

Thy way, not ours, O God

Tomorrow, Lord is thine

[ocr errors]

We love the place, O God.

[ocr errors]

When our heads are bowed with woe.
When this passing world is done
Where high the Heavenly Temple stands
Who are these like stars appearing

The Son of God goes forth to war
