FOR the first time for many years I find myself alone in my own home. The dear ones whose interests have been mine, and with whose fate my own has been so interwoven that I have, as it were, played a subordinate part in my own life, are dispersed for a time, occupied with nearer and dearer ties than those which bind them to meand I am alone, with the memory of the past, and the hope (ever brighter as the sun of this life draws towards its setting) which is full of eternity.
