towards me, which shone with a benign radiance, such as I could never have conceived, and cannot describe. As I gazed steadfastly, he benevolently smiled, and beckoned me." Oh!" said I, "I will go to him!" But as I made an effort for that purpose, I awoke, and found that it was a dream !— only a dream; and one which perhaps some may think scarcely worth relating; since if what it represents were true, it would add nothing of importance to that which we already expect. If, however, when we are said to leave the world, the body were to

disappear, and there were any reason to believe, that it instantly entered into one or other of the conditions here supposed, or that it were immediately connected with the fate of the soul; any information respecting its circumstances after its departure, would secure a degree of interest and attention, which few now bestow upon the subject:-not that this supposed disappearance of the body could easily be conceived to be more striking than the departure of the spirit; but the surprising fact is, that persons in general care more about it; for while they profess to

feel convinced of the conscious

ness of the spirit after death, they entertain far less thought and solicitude with regard to it, than they do concerning the disposal of what they well know must be the unconscious body. "Let me be buried in such a ground-near such a person-in a leaden coffin, and in a brick grave."-Thus the mind strangely indulges in anxiety respecting the tomb, which certainly it will never enter.

Он say, happy Spirit! now peacefully flown, Who attended thy flight through those regions unknown?

What bright viewless hosts, to thy cottage of clay Drew near, at the signal, to bear thee away!

Where now shall we find thee?-Oh! where is thy heaven ?

Say if the deep blue of the calm summer even;
Or the oceans of glory remote in the west;
Or the still shades of midnight, have found thee
a rest >

Or is yonder dim star, which just pierces the gloom And sheds a faint beam o'er the dust of the tombThy mansion celestial-now scarce to be seen, For systems unnumbered are rolling between!

Ah, no! for the darkness has shaded the blue: The far western glories have fail'd from my view :

The still gloom of midnight will yield to the day, And ere now a bright star has extinguish'd its ray.

But with unchanging light, are thy heav'ns array'd;

Bright sunless effulgence, which knows not a shade:

Then where shall we seek for those regions un

known

Oh say, happy Spirit! now peacefully flown?

FINIS.
