Faith can hear the rapturous choral,
When her ear is upward turn'd:
Is not this the same, perfected,
Which upon the earth they learn'd?
3 Jesus, when on earth sojourning,

Loved them with a wondrous love:
And will he, to heaven returning,
Faithless to his blessing prove?
Oh, they cannot sing too early:

Fathers, stand not in their way!
Birds do sing while day is breaking:
Tell me, then, why should not they?

Christ has come in very deed,
Born to bruise the serpent's head;
Sinner, he's the Friend you need,
Praise the Lamb.

4 See, in sad Gethsemane,
See, on tragic Calvary,
Sinner, see his love to thee,
Praise the Lamb.

5 Penitents, dry up your tears,
God hath heard believing prayers,
He forgives you when he hears
His dear Lamb.

Let man rejoice below.

Thy sacred influence feel;

That was slain.

Do thou each sinful thought control,

And fix our wavering zeal.

All creatures live and move,
On us thy benediction shower ;
Inspire our souls with love.

2 Hail, Source of light! arise and shine; All gloom and doubt dispel ;

Give peace and joy, for we are thine;
In us forever dwell.

3 From death to life our spirits raise ; Complete redemption bring;

New tongues impart to speak the praise

Of Christ, our God and King.

4 Thine inward witness bear, unknown
To all the world beside ;
Exulting, then, we feel and own
Our Saviour glorified.

From God the Father and the Son.
2 Enlightened by the heavenly ray,
Our shades and darkness turn to day;
Thine inward teachings make us know
Our danger, and our refuge too.

3 Thy power and glory work within,
And break the chains of reigning sin ;
All our imperious lusts subdue,
And form our wretched hearts anew.

4 The troubled conscience knows thy voice e;

Thy cheering words awake our joys; Thy words allay the stormy wind, And calm the surges of the mind.

O highest Gift of God most high!
O fount of life! O fire of love!
Send sweet anointing from above!

3 Kindle our senses from above,

And make our hearts o'erflow with
love;

With patience firm, and virtue high,
The weakness of our flesh supply.

4 Far from us drive the foe we dread,
And grant us thy true peace instead;
So shall we not, with thee for guide,
Turn from the path of life aside.
