Who for the joy that was set before him : endured the cross, despising the shame ; And is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

HYMN XXVIII.

Good Friday.

1 1 Peter iv. 1.

21 Peter ii. 21-25.

1 Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh arm yourselves likewise with the same mind.

For he that hath suffered in the flesh : hath ceased from sin.

2 For even hereunto were ye called because Christ also suffered for us;

Leaving us an example: that ye should follow his steps;

Who did no sin neither was guile found in his mouth;

Who when he was reviled : reviled not again;

When he suffered he threatened not : but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously.

Who his ownself bare our sins in his

own body on the tree;

That we being dead to sins should live unto righteousness by whose stripes ye were healed.

For ye were as sheep going astray : but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

HYMN XXIX.

Easter Even.

1 Isaiah xlix. 24, 25.

2 Psalm xvi. 10.

3 Isaiah xxxviii. 18.

4 St. John xv. 13.
5 St. John x. 17.

1 Shall the prey be taken from the mighty or the lawful captive delivered? Thus saith the LORD, even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered.

2 For thou wilt not leave his soul in hell: neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

For the grave cannot praise thee, death cannot celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

4 Greater love hath no man than this: that a man lay down his life for his friends.

5 Therefore doth the Father love him: because he laid down his life that he might take it again.

No man took it from him: but he laid it down of himself.

He had power to lay it down : and he had power to take it again.

HYMN XXX.

Easter Day.

Ephesians ii. 4-7. 19–22.

God who is rich in mercy for his great love wherewith he loved us,

Even when we were dead in sins: hath quickened us together with Christ;

And hath raised us up together

and

made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus;

That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness towards us through Christ Jesus.

Now therefore ye are no more strangers

and foreigners but fellow citizens with the saints and of the household of God;

And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets : Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the LORD;

In whom ye also are builded together : for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

HYMN XXXI.

Monday in Easter Week.

Baruch v. 1-4. 9.

Put off, O Jerusalem the garment of thy mourning and affliction;

And put on the comeliness of the glory: that cometh from God for ever.

Cast about thee a double garment of the righteousness which cometh from God; And set a diadem on thine head of the glory of the Everlasting.

For God will show thy brightness : unto every country under heaven;

For thy name shall be called of God for

ever

The peace of righteousness: and the glory of God's worship.

For God shall lead Israel with joy in the light of his glory;

With the mercy and righteousness : that cometh from him.

HYMN XXXII.

Tuesday in Easter Week.

Wisdom v. 15. 16.

Then shall the righteous man : stand in great boldness,

Before the face of such as have afflicted him and made no account of his labours.

When they shall see it troubled with terrible fear;

they shall be

And shall be amazed at the strangeness of his salvation so far beyond all that they looked for.

And they groaning for anguish of spirit shall say within themselves,
