ever fhall not be k offended in me. 24. And when the Meffengers of John were departed, he began to fpeak unto the People concerning John, What went ye out into the Wilderness for to fee? A reed fhaken with the Wind? 25. But what went ye out for to fee? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings courts. 26. But what went ye out for to fee? A Prophet? Yea, I fay unto you, and much more than a Prophet. 27. This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I fend my meffenger before thy face, which fhall prepare thy way before thee. 28. For I lay unto you, Among those that are born of Women, there is not a greater Prophet than John the Baptift: but he that is least in the kingdom of God, is greater than he. 29. And all the People that heard him, and the publicans juftified God, being baptized with the baptifm of John. 30. But the Pharifees and Lawyers rejected [Or, fruftrated] the counsel of God against themselves [Or, within themselves], being not baptized of him. 31. And the Lord faid, "Whereunto then fhall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? 32. They are like unto children fitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, and faying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced: mourned to you, and ye have not wept. 33. For John the Baptift, came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye fay, He hath a devil. 34. The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye fay, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and finners. 35. But Wisdom is juftified of all her children. 36. And

There was a certain Creditor which had two Debters: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. 42. And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him moft? 43. Simon answered and faid, I fuppofe that he to whom he forgave moft. And he said unto him, Thou haft rightly judged. 44. And he turned to the Woman, and faid unto Simon, Seeft thou this Woman? I entred into thine houfe, thou gaveft me no Water for my feet: but he hath wafhed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. 45. Thou gavest me no kifs: but this Woman, fince the time I came in, hath not ceafed to kifs my feet. 45. Mine head with Oyl thou didst not anoint: but this Woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. 47. Wherefore I fay unto thee, Her fins, which are many, are forgiven; for fhe loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the fame loveth little. 48. And he said unto her, Thy fins are forgiven. 49. Those by the way-fide, are they that hear: then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, left they fhould believe and be faved. 13. They on the rock, are they, which when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. 14. And that which fell among thorns, are they, which when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with f cares, and riches, and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. 15. But that on the good ground, are they, which in an honeft and good heart, having heard the Word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with h patience. 16. man when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a veffel, or putteth it under a bed: but fetteth it on a candleftick, that they which enter in may fee the light. 17.
