You request, ere we part, a brief line to convey, The sensations obscuring this long-dreaded day;

And as with your mandate, the Muse must comply,

Not a blush o'er that dimple shall spread its soft dye;

Or envelope those features, so modest and mild,

Proclaiming their owner, Simplicity's child ;

For we know the dislike of your sensitive frame,
If the cynical world ever mention your name;
That name to the wind ne'er was whisper'd by me;
And this verse shall be sacred, to friendship and thee,
High-bred without falsehood, by fashion unchill'd,
In each feminine grace, and accomplishment skill'd;
With a knowledge of books you discreetly conceal;
With an insight of life you as seldom reveal;
From the tumult of pleasure you gladly retire,
To the shelter of home, and your own social fire;
And prove by your conduct, deportment, and air,
What a polish our country's bright jewels can bear.
Then establish'd for months in your summer retreat,
(That temple of dulness-a fine country seat ;)
No Prospero's wand, with its magical spell,
Absent friends to recall, and the vapours dispel ;
But you saunter each morn, thro' a desolate park,
Your attendants the deer, and your music the lark;
