Creator! let thy Spirit shine

The darkness of our souls within,

And lead us by thy grace divine

From the forbidden paths of sin;
And may that voice which bade the earth
From chaos and the realms of night,
From doubt and darkness call us forth
To God's own liberty and light!
Thus made partakers of thy love,
The baptism of the Spirit ours,
Our grateful hearts shall rise above,
Renewed in purposes and powers,
And songs of joy again shall ring
Triumphant through the arch of heaven,
The glorious songs which angels sing,
Exulting over souls forgiven!

W. H. BURLEIGH.

O lost and found! All gentle souls below
Their dearest welcome shall prepare, and

prove

'Twas then my soul beheld from far
The glimmering of an orient star,

That pierced and cheered my nature's night;
Sweetly it dawned, and promised day,
Sorrow and sin it chased away,

And opened into glorious light.

To God the Spirit's name
Immortal worship give;

C. WESLEY.

Whose new creating power
Makes dying sinners live:
His work completes the great design,
And fills the soul with joy divine.

WATTS.

The consciousness of faith, of sins forgiven,
Of wrath appeased, of heavy guilt thrown off,
Sheds on my breast its long-forgotten peace,
And shining steadfast as the noon-day sun,
Lights me along the path that duty marks.
MRS. HALL.

So now the soul's sublimed, her sour desires
Are recalcined in heaven's well tempered fires;
The heart restored, and purged from drossy
nature,

Now finds the freedom of a new-born creature;
It lives another life, it breathes new breath,

Such joy o'er thee as raptured seraphs It neither fears nor feels the sting of death.

And He was slain that we might be trans

formed,

Not into Adam's sweet similitude,
But the more glorious image of Himself:

A resolution of our destiny

As high transcending Eden's life and lot,
As He surpasses Eden's fallen lord.

J. G. HOLLAND.

When man is born anew,
And being's perfect bliss is given,
Lo, a new Eden starts to view,

While angel-harps rejoice in heaven:
"Tis wondrous all, divinely bright,
And the new creature walks in light.
