A history of the various claims to the House of Lennox (or Levenax) of the Scottish nobility, between 1235 A.D. and 1835. The author reviews the original holding by the Earldom of Duncan, and these honours descended by inheritance through his heirs for centuries. He then reviews the claims of John, Lord Dernely, to the Earldom of Lennox, as well as the claims of John Haldane of Gleneagles to this Earldom, deeming each of these claims both meager and inaccurate. He recites his claim that Elizabeth Menteith of the House of Merchiston inherited the primogeniture rights to the Earldom of Lennox, and through her marriage to John Napier, their descendants became the proper heirs to the Earldom of Lennox.
