BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES.

SENATE, 1891.

O. H. BENTLEY.

O. H. Bentley, who represents the Twenty-ninth Senatorial District -Sedgwick county- was born in Fabius, Onondaga county, New York, and is thirty-eight years of age. Mr. Bentley lived as a boy upon a dairy farm, and until he was nineteen years of age. He studied law in Arcade and Buffalo, New York, and was admitted to the bar at Columbus, Ohio, January 17, 1872. Senator Bentley came to Kansas in March, 1880, and since that time has resided in the city of Wichita. For a time he was a member of the firm of Bentley, Hatfield & Bentley; the firm is now O. H. & J. C. Bentley. In addition to, the management of his extensive law business, Senator Bentley has been connected with several large enterprises, among others the Kansas Midland Railway, completed from Wichita to Ellsworth-one hundred and ten miles-now a portion of the St. Louis & San Francisco Railway system, which was originally projected by him. To this enterprise he gave his entire time for three years. He is now connected with the Dakota, Wichita & Galveston Railway enterprise, and the Halstead Belt Line Railway Company. He has been married about twelve years, but has no children. Is not a member of any religious denomination, but contributes liberally to the Episcopal church, of which Mrs. Bentley is a communicant. Never held any office previous to his election as Senator. In the session of 1889 Mr. Bentley was chairman of the Committee on Cities of the First Class. He is known in the Senate as the friend of local legislation. The Senator has always been an active man in politics, and is perfectly at home on the stump, being an entertaining, enthusiastic, eloquent and convincing speaker. He was delegate at large from Sedgwick county to the latest Republican State convention, and a member of the committee on resolutions in that body. He was -as he has been for years an advocate of a resubmission of the prohibitory amendment of Kansas, but believes in securing it through the Republican party, and has the tact to submit to the will of
