AN ACT

Concerning the publication of the laws and journals of the eleventh session of the legislature.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Nebraska :

SECTION 1. The secretary of state is hereby directed to laws for publi- prepare the laws, joint resolutions, and memorials, passed at the present session of the legislature, and deliver copies of the same to the printer within thirty days after the adjournment of the legislature.

SEC. 2. Five thousand copies of the laws shall be printed and bound in full sheep, and five hundred copies of the journal of each house, bound in half-sheep, and the same shall be delivered as fast as may be, to the secretary of state, to be distributed in the manner provided by law. SEC. 3. The secretary of state shall receive the sum of five hundred dollars, or so much thereof, as may be necessary for labor in preparing said laws for publication and indexing the same, which amount is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to be paid by warrant of the auditor on the general fund of the treasury.

SEC. 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.

MEMORIAL AND JOINT RESOLUTION.

To our Senators and Representatives in Congrees:

Whereas, Great efforts have been made during the past fifteen years to secure to the territory and State of Nebraska the title to lands selected, in lieu of the sixteenth and thirty-sixth sections, lost by pre-emption or otherwise; and

Whereas, Some of these lands were selected at least fifteen years ago, and are among the most valuable lands in the state, and could have been long since sold, and thus made a great source of revenue to the temporary school fund, and also to the state at large, and

Whereas, Within the past two or three years other lands have been selected, until at present [there] are more than thirty-nine thousand acres of valuable land awaiting the approval or rejection of the general land commissioner; and

Whereas, Under the existing laws, no school lands inure to the state from any Indian reservation, even after it has reverted to the government, thus depriving the state of thousands of acres of valuable lands that under the "enabling act," of right belonging to it; and

Whereas, The proper officers in charge of these lands having repeatedly importuned the land commissioner to examine the lists of lands selected, and approve, or reject them, and as yet nothing has been done in the matter; therefore,

Resolved, by the Legislature of the State of Nebraska, That our senators and representatives in congress be respectfully requested to do all in their power to have an act passed immediately by congress that shall fully carry out the provisions of the "enabling act" and give to the State of Nebraska a perfect title to all lands to which she is justly entitled.

Resolved, That a copy of these preambles and resolutions be immediately forwarded by the secretary of state to our senators and representative in congress.

JOINT RESOLUTION OF THANKS

To congress, for donating aid to destitute sufferers of Nebraska and Kansas. Be it resolved by the Legislature of the State of Nebraska :

SECTION 1. That the thanks of the legislature of Nebraska (the senate concurring), are hereby tendered to the senate and house of representatives of the forty-third congress for the very liberal donation of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars voted toward purchasing seed for the destitute of Nebraska and Kansas.

SEC. 2. That a copy of these resolutions be forwarded immediately to the speaker of house of representatives and to the president of the senate of the United States.
