late Lieutenant Colonel Charles Baxter, and Major, now Lieutenant Colonel James C. Burnham, for their bravery and good conduct during the recent operations of our army; and that we deeply deplore the loss of those of their number, late our friends and neighbors, who have fallen in battle, or victims to the inevitable sufferings and casualties of war, in the service of their country. Resolved, (if the Assembly concur,) That these resolutions be respectively signed by the president of the Senate, and the speaker of the House of Assembly; and that the governor of the state be, and is hereby requested to transmit a copy of the same to Major General Scott, and Colonel Ward B. Burnett. Resolved, (if the Assembly concur,) It being understood that the veteran commander, Major General Zachary Taylor, is about to return for a brief period to the United States, that a respectful and cordial invitation be extended to him, on the part of the Legislature, to visit this state within the six months during which he has leave of absence from the army, and that the governor of the state be, and is hereby requested to communicate such invitation to General Taylor, in such terms as he may deem consonant with the occasion and the wishes of the Legislature.
