Unblameable in grace;

Fully prepare and fit me here
In thy good season to appear
Before thy glorious face.

HYMN 9.

From Psalm xiii.

1. How long, O Lord, shall I complain
Like one that seeks his God in vain.
Canst Thou thy face for ever hide;
And I still pray, and be denied?

2. Shall I for ever be forgot,

As one whom Thou regardest not?
Still shall my soul thine absence mourn?
And still despair of thy return?

3. How long shall my poor troubled breast Be with these anxious thoughts opprest? And Satan, my malicious foe,

Rejoice to see me sunk so low?

4. Hear, Lord, and grant me quick relief, Before in death I end my grief.

If Thou withhold thy heav'nly light,
I sleep in everlasting night.

5 Whate'er my fears or foes suggest,

Thou art my hope, my joy, my rest.
My heart shall feel thy love, and raise
My cheerful voice to songs of praise.

HYMN 10.

"The wicked are like the troubled sea." ISAIAH lvii. 20.

1. In every object here I see

Something, my heart, that points at thee :
Hard as the rocks that bound the strand,
Unfruitful as the barren sand,

Deep and deceitful as the ocean,
And, like the tides, in restless motion.

2. In every object here I see

Something, O Lord, that leads to Thee :
Firm as the rocks thy promise stands,
Thy mercies countless as the sands,
Thy love a sea immensely wide,
Thy grace an ever flowing tide.

HYMN 11.

"O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord." ISA. ii. 5.

1. Is there a time when moments flow
More pleasantly than all beside ?

It is of all the times below,

A sabbath eve in summer tide.

2. Oh, then the setting sun smiles fair,
And all on earth, and all above,
The diff'rent forms of nature wear
One universal garb of love.

3. And then the peace that Jesus beams,
The life of grace, the death of sin,
With nature's placid woods and streams,
Is peace without, and peace within.

4. Delightful scene! a world at rest,
A God all love, no grief nor fear,
A heav'nly hope, a peaceful breast,
A smile unsullied by a tear.

5. If heav'n be ever felt below,

A scene so heav'nly sure as this
May cause a heart on earth to know
Some foretaste of celestial bliss.

6. Delightful hour! how soon will night Spread her dark mantle o'er thy reign; And morrow's quick returning light Must call us to the world again.

7. Yet will there dawn at last a day,
A sun that never sets shall rise;

Night will not veil his ceaseless ray,
The heavenly sabbath never dies.

HYMN 12.

"The holy Jerusalem." REV. xxi. 10.

1. JERUSALEM! my happy home!
Name ever dear to me!

When shall my conflicts have an end
In joy, and peace, and thee?

2. Oh! when, thou city of my God,

Shall I thy courts ascend,

Where congregations ne'er break up,
And sabbaths never end?

3. Why should I shrink at pain and woe,
Or feel at death dismay?

I've Canaan's goodly land in view,
And realms of endless day.

4. Apostles, martyrs, prophets, there
Around my Saviour stand;

And soon all faithful friends of Christ
Will join the glorious band.

5. Jerusalem! my happy home!
My soul still pants for thee!

Then shall my conflicts have an end,
When I thy joys shall see.

(Kingsbury.)

HYMN 13.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."

PHIL. ii. 5.

1. JESUS, exalted far on high, To whom a name is given;

A name surpassing every name,

That's known in earth or heaven :

66

2. Before whose throne shall every knee
Bow down with one accord;

Before whose throne shall every tongue
Confess that Thou art Lord:

3. Jesus, who in the form of God,
Didst equal honour claim;

Yet, to redeem our guilty souls,
Didst stoop to death and shame :

4. Oh! may that mind in us be form'd,
Which shone so bright in Thee;
An humble, meek, and lowly mind,
From pride and anger free.

5. May we to others stoop, and learn
To imitate thy love;

So shall we bear thine image here,
And share thy throne above.

(Trinity.)

HYMN 14.

My grace is sufficient for thee; for my strength is made perfect in weakness." 2 COR. xii. 9.

1. JESUS, my strength, my hope,
On Thee I cast my care;
To Thee in confidence look up,
And know Thou hearest prayer.
