(3.) How is the sheath of the Rectus Abdominis formed?

(4.) What vessels form the Deep and Superficial Palmar Arches? (5.) In what respects, besides size, do the Small differ from the Large Intestines?

(6.) Describe the origin and distribution of the Glosso-pharyngeal nerve.

PHYSIOLOGY.

(1.) Define a Lever. What are the three kinds of levers? Give two examples of each from the human body.

(2.) What is believed to be the cause of coagulation of the blood? What circumstances favor the process, and what retard it?

(3.) Describe the nervous system of the heart. Mention the fuuctions of the different nerves, and state how these have been ascertained.

(4.) Describe the circulation of the kidney, and the differences, physical and chemical, between blood in the renal veins and arteries. What are the effects on the renal circulation and excretion of irritation of its vasomotor nerves ?

(5) Describe the structure and development of a human tooth.

(1.) How are the different kinds of Extracts made? Give two examples of each.

(2.) What medicines are incompatible in mixtures with Tartaremetic, salts of Iron, and corrosive Sublimate? Give the reason in each case.

(3.) What organs do Aconite-Belladonna-Digitalis—Strychnine and Cantharides chiefly influence when given medicinally? How do they affect them ?

(4.) Give the composition of the following pills:

a. Pilula Hydrargyri subchloridi composita.

b. Pilula conii composita.

(1.) Give in a tabular form the divisions or classes of the Articulata, with a brief description of each class.

(2.) State briefly the peculiarities of the skeleton in Chelonian Reptiles.

(3.) Describe the Nervous System and Organs of Sense of Fishes. (4.) To what do the length and size of the Cœcum in Mammals bear relation? And enumerate those orders in which it is found wanting and those in which it exists without a vermiform appendage.

(5.) Describe the Respiratory apparatus of Reptiles.

(6.) Describe the Circulation in Fishes.

N. B. The 2nd and 4th of the foregoing questions must be answered, and any two of the other four, to secure the maximum of marks.

MEDICINE AND PATHOLOGY.

(1.) Describe the characteristics of a "Granular Red Kidney." Give a synopsis of the symptoms which betray its presence, and finally state how you would treat a case of the disease in which it exists.

(2.) How would you diagnose Dengue from Measles, Scarlatina, Acute Rheumatism, and Erythema Nodosum.

(3.) Small-pox-state its period of incubation, and then describe the phenomena of the successive periods of Invasion, Eruption, and Desiccation.

(4) Facial paralysis—its symptoms, causes and treatment.

(5.) What is Hooping Cough? Describe its diagnostic symptoms, and state how you would treat the disease.

(6.) What are the present symptoms, and what may be the consequences, proximate and remote, of Endocarditis?

WEDNESDAY, 17TH JULY 1872, 10 A.M. TO 1 P.M.
SURGERY.

R. W. COCKERILL, Esq.

(1.) Give the pathology and treatment of Carbuncle.

(2) What are the symptoms of scrofulous inflammation of the hip joint in a child six years of age? Decribe the progress of the disease in a favourable and unfavourable case; and give the treatment you would adopt.

(3.) Describe the different forms of Nasal Polypus. Where is a naso pharyngeal polypus attached, and under what circumstances would you consider an operation for its removal justifiable.

(4.) If rupture of the urethra followed retention of urine, what symptoms would probably arise, and how would you treat them? (5.) Describe the condition of a patient that would induce you to perform tracheotomy, and detail the different steps of the operation.

THURSDAY, 18TH JULY 1872, 10 A.M. TO 1 P.M.
MIDWIFERY.

(1.) What conditions predispose to malposition of the child in utero and how do they act ?

(2.) Given an arm presentation in the abdomino-anterior position, how would you deliver? Mention every thing you would do in detail.

(3.) Describe the modes of applying the long forceps. For what cases is it best adapted? In what cases would you prefer the short?

(4.) What are the principal forms of diarrhoea in iufancy? Mention the character, of the stools in each variety, and the treatment, dietetic and medicinal, proper to each.

THURSDAY, 18TH JULY 1872, 2 TO 5 P.M.

MEDICAL JURISPRUDENCE.

(1.) By what means may Criminal Abortion be effected-and what are the signs of its occurrence?

(2.) What constitutes Rape in this country? and from what sources may medical evidence of the crime be derived ?

(3.) Mention the signs and appearances which would satisfy you that a dead child, recently born, was born alive.

(4.) Is Ecchymosis a necessary or constant result of severe Contusion? and may death follow such Contusion without Ecchymosis? (5.) Give the characters of a Wound inflicted during life.

(6.) What are the symptoms of Poisoning with Atropa Belladonna ? and how would you treat a case of it ?

N. B. Of the foregoing the last must be answered and any three of the others -four answers sufficing to secure the maximum of marks.

FRIDAY, 19TH JULY 1872, 10 A.M. TO 1 P.M.

HYGIENE.

(1.) What is the principle of the soap-test? For what purposes is it used in water-analysis? How is the standard soap solution prepared and graduated ?

(2.) Mention some of the methods by which water can be purified without filtration. In each case state the effect produced.

(3.) Mention the more important impurities that pass into the atmosphere. What are the great natural methods of purification ? What is the value of each ?

(4.) 100 sepoys have to carry a week's provisions on an expedition. What ordinary articles of food would you recommend, in what quantities and how prepared, it being important to limit the bulk and weight as much as possible.

OPHTHALMIC MEDICINE AND SURGERY.

(1.) What is meant by Hypermetropia? What kind of glasses are required in this affection, and how do they act ?

(2.) What are the symptoms and treatment of purulent

ophthalmia ?

(3.) What are the causes of granular lids? What are apt to be the consequences ? Mention some of the modes of treatment.

(4.) What are the different forms of Iritis ? What are the remedies applicable to each form?
