HYMN CIV. L. M.

[STEELE.]

The exaltation of Chrift. NOW let us raife our cheerful trains, And join the blifsful choir above! There our exalted Saviour reigns, And there they fing his wondrous love."

7 While feraphs tune th' immortal fong,
O may we feel the facred flame;
And ev'ry heart and ev'ry tongue
Adore the Saviour's glorious name.
3 Jefus, who once upon the tree
In agonizing pains expir'd;
Who di'd for rebels; yes 'tis he!
How bright! how lovely! how admir'd!

4 Jefus who di'd that we might live,
Di'd in the wretched traitor's place;
O what returns can mortals give,
For fuch meafurable grace!

5

Were univerfal nature ours,
And art with all her boasted fore;
Nature and art with all their pow'rs,
Would ftill confefs the off'rer poor!

6 Yet tho' for bounty, fo divine !
We ne'er can equal honors raife;
Jefus, may all our hearts be thine,
And all our tongues proclaim thy praise.

HYMN CV. L. M.

[DODDRIDGE.]

I

Jefus exalted as a Prince and a Saviour.
EX
'XALTED Prince of life, we own
The royal honors of thy throne:

2

'Tis fix'd by God's Almighty hand, And feraphs bow at thy command. 2 Exalted Saviour, we confefs The foy'reign triumphs of thy grace; Where beams of gentle radiance fhine, And temper majefty divine. 3 Wide thy refiftlefs fceptre sway, Till all thine enemies obey: Wide may thy cross its virtue prove, And conquer millions by its love. 4 Mighty to vanquish, and forgive! Thine Ifr'el hall repent and live ; And loud proclaim thy healing breath, Which works their life, who wro't thy death.

HYMN CVI. L. M. [WATTS) M—SS. .3 The Victory of the King of Kings.

BEGIN, my foul, the heav'nly fong,

A burden for an angel's ongue : When Gabriel founds these awful things, He tunes and fummons all his strings.

2 Proclaim inimitable love,

Jefus, the Lord of worlds above,
Puts off the beams of bright array,
And veils the God in mortal clay:

He that diftributes crowns and thrones,
Hangs on a tree, and bleeds, and groans
The Prince of life refigns his breath,
The King of glory bows to death.
4 But fee the wonders of his pow'r,
He triumphs in his dying hour,

And while by Satan's rage he fell,
He dafh'd the rifing hopes of hell.

5 Thus were the hofts of death fubdu'd,
And fin was drown'd in Jefus' blood:
Then he arofe, and reigns above,
And conquers finners by his love.

6 Who hall fulfil this boundless fong?
The theme furmounts an Angel's tongue :
How low, how vain are mortal airs,
When Gabriel's nobler harp despairs.

HYMN CVII. C. M.

Advocate, if any man fin..

1 JESUS, before thy throne,

We bow with filial awe,
And our tranfgreffions humbly own
As fins, against thy law.

2 Where, whither fall we fly?
How 'fcape from wrath divine?
O be our advocate on high,
And claim us, Lord, as thine

3 Plead thy dear wounds, rich blood,
Thy agony, and sweat :
The mighty ranfom of the God,
Who paid the finner's debt.

4 Nor afk we this, thy grace,
For our vile felves alone:
The whole of Adam's guilty race
Are, Lord, thy purchas'd own.

5 Hence all the shields of earth,
Shall found thy name abroad;
And fhout in loudeft ftrains of praife,
The ever faving God.
