This edition of the Pennsylvania State Manual is the second to be issued under public direction through the Bureau of Publications, Department of Property and Supplies. It is in reality four books. The first dealing with the State Government proper; the second, with statistics; the third, with laws governing elections in this State, and the fourth with legislative matters.

This Manual contains practically all of the essential features of Smull's Legislative Handbook with new data, much of which appears in no other State publication. In this connection attention of the users of this volume is called to the chronology of important events in Pennsylvania history, biographies of the judges of the appellate courts, and a brief history of the State Supreme and Superior Courts, a survey of the resources of the Commonwealth, data relating to the State flag, coat of arms and seal, the list of principal municipal officers, the inclusion of data concerning the National Government and the rules and decisions of the General Assembly which had been omitted from the 1923-24 edition. Brief sketches of the extra sessions of the Legislature and political division of the Legislature from 1900 to 1926 were also inserted in this edition.

Original sources have been consulted in the work of revision of the present edition. Inevitable changes have occurred since the facts were compiled, but in the main the information has been corrected as far as possible up to the time of going to press.

Much of the data compiled herein was obtained after repeated inquiries and persistent research and is presented with the hope that it will meet the purposes of those who have heretofore found the Manual useful.

Public acknowledgment is made of the special assistance of National, State and county officials, and others who aided in this revision.
