3 O may Thy counsels, mighty God,
Direct us in the dang'rous road,
Through which our journey lies!
"Tis God alone can set us right,
And turn our darkness into light,
And lead us to the skies.

Psalm li. 3.

ELL me, my Lord, for whom
Thy precious blood was shed;
For sinners! Lord? as such I come,
For such the Saviour bled.

Then raise a fallen wretch,
Display Thy grace in ue!

I am not out of mercy's reach,
Nor too far gone for Thee.

Thou quickly wilt forgive,
My Lord will not delay;

Jesus, to Thee the time I leave,
And wait th' accepted day.

Hast Thou not died for me,

And call'd me from below?

O help me to lay hold on Thee,
And ne'er to let Thee go!

5

Tho' on the billows tost,

My Saviour I'll pursue :

Awhile submit to bear the cross,
Then share His glory too.

Phil. ii. 7.

LEST Saviour, didst Thou condescend
To suffer poverty and woe,

For those who justly were condemned,

To raise them from a state so low?

L. M.

2 To live for ever, Lord, with Thee,
To join Thy blood-bought throng above?
Amazing mercy! grace how free!
How can I ever doubt Thy love.

3 But Lord, it is with shame I own
My heart is cold, my faith is weak,
O, Saviour, leave me not alone,
But to my soul some comfort speak!

4 Still give me faith and holy love,
Till time with me shall be no more;
Then let me join Thy throng above,
To shout free grace for evermore.

WHY

Hos. xiii. 14.

HY should true Christians fear to die,
Or bid farewell to earth?

Why dread with kindred worms to lie
Till Christ shall call them forth?

C. M.

2 'Twas Christ alone who conquered death,
And robbed him of his sting:
O help me with my latest breath
To praise my gracious King!

3 Oh! lay Thine everlasting arm
Beneath my feeble head;

Then I'm secure from ev'ry harm,
Though numbered with the dead.

4 Then raised to life to die no more,
But to behold the Lamb,

And worship Him whom saints adore,
And praise the great I AM.

ME

Math. xxviii. 20.

EN of God, go, take your stations;
Darkness reigns throughout the earth:

Go, proclaim among the nations

Joyful news of heav'nly birth:
Bear the tidings

Of the Saviour's matchless worth.

2 Of His gospel not ashamed,

'Tis the power of God to save;
Go, where Christ was never named ;
Publish freedom to the slave!
Blessed freedom!

Such as Zion's children have.

3 What tho' earth and hell united,

Should oppose

the Saviour's plan,

Plead His cause, nor be affrighted

Fear ye

not the face of man:

Vain their tumult,

Hurt His work they never can.

4 When exposed to fearful dangers,

Jesus will His own defend:

Borne afar midst foes and stangers,
Jesus will appear your Friend:
And His presence

Shall be with you to the end.

THE

Psalm xlvi. 4.

HERE is a river deep and broad,
Its course no mortal knows;

It fills with joy the church of God,
And widens as it flows.

2 Clearer than crystal is the stream,
And bright with endless day,
The waves with ev'ry blessing teem,
And life and health convey.

3 Where'er they flow, contentions cease,
And love and meekness reign;

The Lord Himself commands the peace,
And foes conspire in vain.

4 Along the shores angelic bands,
Watch ev'ry moving wave;
With holy joy their breast expands,
When men the waters crave.

5 Thither distressed souls repair, The Lord invites them nigh;

C. M.

They leave their cares and sorrows there,
They drink, and never die.

6 Flow on, sweet stream, more largely flow, The church with glory fill,

Till all the saints the Saviour know,
And all obey His will.

EHOLD the temple of the Lord!

BEH

God's building, where, by saints adored,
His presence He reveals:

Jehovah Jesus, God of peace,
Rears it to be His resting place,
And there His glory dwells.

2 A temple this, not made with hands,
The workmanship of grace it stands,
And ever shall endure:

"Tis founded on the Living Stone,
And mid all changes shall be known,
Immutably secure!

3 Time, that all other work destroys,
Combined with pow'r that hell employs,
With safety it defies;

Erected for God's own name's sake,
Though earth with deep convulsions shake,
Majestic it shall rise!

4 Age after age, the work goes on;
Soon shall we hear the voice, 'tis done
And hail its crowning stone!
With all the armies of the sky,
Grace! Grace unto it! we shall cry
And Jesus' praise make known!

ZION, awake, put on thy strength,
Put on thy beautiful array :

8 6 lines

The promised Saviour comes at length,
To chase thy grief and guilt away:
Thee for His purchase God shall own,
And save thee in His dying Son.

2 Jerusalem, be holy now,

Satan no more shall dwell in thee;
Washed from thy sin, and white as snow
