4 Behold, on flying clouds He comes,
And ev'ry eye His face shall view:
See, how He breaks the long-clos'd tombs:
See, how He forms His saints anew.

5 The unbelieving world shall wail,
While His redeem'd ones bless the day:
Come, Lord, nor let Thy promise fail,
Nor let Thy chariots long delay.

2 Heb. ix.

YROWNS of glory ever bright,
Rest upon the Victor's head:
Crowns of glory are His right,
His, who liveth and was dead.

Jesus fought, and won the day,
Such a day was never fought:
Well His people now may say,

See! what God, our God, has wrought.

He subdu'd the pow'rs of Hell;

In the fight He stood alone:

All His foes before Him fell,
By His single arm o'erthrown.

Now proclaim His deeds afar,
Fill the world with His renown:
His alone the Victor's car,
His the everlasting crown.

Rev. vii. 11.

ARK! the notes of angels, singing
Glory, glory to the Lamb!
All in heav'n their tribute bringing,
Raising high the Saviour's name.

Ye for whom His life was given,
Sacred themes to you belong;
Come assist the choir of heaven;
Join the everlasting song.

2 Fill'd with holy emulation,

Let us vie with those above:
Sweet the theme-a free salvation!
Fruit of everlasting love.
Endless life in Him possessing,

Let us praise His precious name;
Glory, honor, power, and blessing,
Be for ever to the Lamb.

[blocks in formation]

DESCEND from heav'n, celestial Dove;

With flames of pure seraphic love
Our ravish'd breasts inspire.
Fountain of joy, blest Paraclete,

886

Warm our cold hearts with heav'nly heat,
And set our souls on fire.

2 Breathe on these bones, so dry and dead; Thy sweetest, softest influence shed

In all our hearts abroad;

Point out the place where grace abounds;
Direct us to the bleeding wounds

Of our Incarnate God.

3 Conduct, blest Guide, Thy sinner-train
To Calv'ry, where the Lamb was slain,
And with us there abide;

Let us our lov'd Redeemer meet,
Weep o'er His pierced hands and feet,
And view His wounded side.

4 Thou, with the Father and the Son,
Art that mysterious Three in One,
God blest for evermore,

Whom tho' we cannot comprehend,
Feeling Thou art the sinner's Friend,
We love Thee and adore.

[blocks in formation]

COME, Thou fount of ev'ry blessing,
Tune my heart to sing Thy grace,
Streams of mercy, never ceasing,
Call for songs of loudest praise:
Teach me some melodious sonnet,
Sung by flaming tongues above:
Praise the mount-I'm fix'd upon it,
Mount of God's unchanging love.

2 Jesus sought me when a stranger,
Wand'ring from the fold of God;
He, to rescue me from danger,
Interpos'd His precious blood.
Here I raise my Ebenezer,

Hither by Thy help I'm come;
And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,
Safely to arrive at home.

3 0, to grace how great a debtor,
Daily I'm constrain'd to be!
Let Thy grace, Lord, like a fetter,
Bind my wand'ring heart to Thee!
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it;
Prone to leave the God I love-
Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it,
Seal it from Thy courts above.

Matt. xxi. 22.

L. M.

ND dost Thou say, Ask what thou wilt?
Lord, I would see the golden hour!
I pray to be released from guilt,
And freed from sin and Satan's power.

2 More of Thy presence, Lord, impart,
More of Thine image, let me bear;
Erect Thy throne within my heart,
And reign without a rival there.

3 Give me to read my pardon seal'd,
And from Thy joy to draw my strength,
To have Thy boundless love revealed,
In all its height and breadth and length.

4 Grant these requests, I ask no more,
But to Thy care the rest resign;
Sick, or in health, or rich, or poor,
All shall be well, if Thou art mine.

[blocks in formation]

LET us, the sheep by Jesus nam'd,
Our Shepherd's mercy bless;
Let us, whom Jesus hath redeem'd,
Show forth our thankfulness.

2 Not unto us, to Thee alone
Be praise and glory given;
Here shall Thy praises be begun,
But carried on in Heaven.

3 The hosts of spirits now with Thee,
Eternal anthems sing;

To imitate them here, lo! we
Our hallelujahs bring.

C. M.

4 Had we our tongues like them inspired;
Like theirs our song should rise;
Like them we never should be tir'd,
But love the sacrifice.

5 Till we this veil of flesh lay down,
Accept our weaker lays;

20

And when, O Lord, we reach Thy throne,
We'll join in nobler praise.

1 Peter v. xi.

TO Him who lov'd the souls of men,
And wash'd us in His blood,
To royal honors rais'd our head,
And made us priests to God;

2 To Him let ev'ry tongue be praise,
And ev'ry heart be love;
All grateful honors paid on earth,
And nobler songs above.

3 Behold! on flying clouds He comes;
His saints shall bless the day,

C. M.

While they that pierc'd Him, sadly mourn
In anguish and dismay.

4 Thou art the First, and Thou the Last,
Time centres all in Thee;

Th' Almighty God, who was, and is,
And evermore shall be.

Isa. xii.

WILL praise Thee ev'ry day,
Now Thine anger's turn'd away,
Comfortable thoughts arise
From the bleeding sacrifice.
