FOR COMFORT IN AFFLICTION.

Graciously look upon our afflictions; Pitifully behold the sorrows of our hearts.

ALMIGHTY GOD, with Whom nothing is impossible, relieve and comfort me in this my necessity. The floods are risen, O Lord, the floods lift

up their voice, the waves of the sea are mighty, and rage horribly, but Thou, O Lord, Who dwellest on high, art mightier! I am tossed and wearied by the deep waters of sorrow. waves of tribulation have well nigh overwhelmed my soul, and the contrary winds of my self-will rebel against Thy Divine Will. Lord, save me, I perish! Command the storm to cease; conform my will to Thine. Let me hear Thee say, "Peace, be still!" and forthwith there shall be a

great calm. In proportion as my tribulation increases, let my confi dence and trust in Thy power and loving-kindness increase. Amen.

FOR A CHORISTER.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who hast taught us that out of the mouths of children Thou hast perfected praise; grant me grace, I humbly beseech Thee, so to fulfil my part in the worship of Thy Church here on earth, that with Thy Church Triumphant in heaven I may hereafter sing Thy praise amidst the great multitude who, having washed their robes and made them white in the Blood of the Lamb, rejoice before Thee with exceeding joy; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

FOR AN ALTAR SERVER.

ALMIGHTY GOD, who hast called

me to serve before Thee at Thine Altar; I pray Thee, of Thy great

mercy to guide, strengthen and sanctify me by Thy Holy Spirit; that with true reverence I may both by my service in Thy House and by my daily life please Thee and glorify Thy Name; Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THANKSGIVING AND PRAYER ON A

ALMIGHTY GOD, the Father and

Maker of all things, by whose

goodness I was fearfully and wonderfully made, and unto whose blessed Providence I have been left ever since I was born, I praise and magnify Thy glorious Name for this Thy great goodness towards me; most humbly beseeching Thee that I may be taught to number my days and apply my heart to wisdom; that I may be sorry for my past sins, and spend the rest of my time here in a godly, righteous, and sober life; that as I have now

THE

HE Holy Communion, or Eucharist, is the highest and most blessed religious service that we can join in, here on earth. However frequently we may Communicate, we should never neglect S. Paul's rule of self-examination, repentance and prayer, as a due preparation. There are many excellent books of devotion to guide us. It is well to fix a time for definite preparation on the day before we Communicate. II. HOW OFTEN SHALL I COMMUNICATE?

It is impossible to lay down a fixed rule. Yet this much may safely be said. Unless hindered by some grave reason, never fail to Communicate upon these days in the Christian year: Easter Day, Whitsunday, All Saints' Day or Sunday after, and Christmas Day. If able, Communicate or be present at the Euchar
