PREFACE.

The compilers of this edition of the Session Laws of 1897 have carefully followed the text of the enrolled bills, excepting the correction of a few plain errors in orthography and punctuation where such correction could not alter the meaning. In cases where words were omitted, or a palpably wrong word written in the enrolled bill, the correct word has been supplied, in brackets. In three or four cases known where errors were made in enrolling bills after their passage by the legislature, footnotes have been added giving the text as passed by both houses. The order of arrangement is the same as that of the Compiled Statutes of 1895. While this is not a logical or even always an alphabetical order, it is the one the public is accustomed to in consulting the statutes, and it seems inadvisable to change the same in the Session Laws until the order of arrangement in the Compiled Statutes is changed.
