SENATORS : A long session, and a laborious one, is now at its termination. During its progress, the course of business, has been inarked by the discussion and disposal of not a few exciting questions; but it is gratifying to know that throughout the whole of our deliberations we have not been divided socially, by anything that has occurred in the discharge of our duties as legislators, and to feel that we are to part in a spirit of harmony and friendship. The result of our labors will soon all be before the people, and should any of our fellow citizens feel disposed to question the wisdom of our transactions as their representatives, reflection may lead them to judge not harshly of a body which has had to act upon so many subjects, and with reference to such a variety of private and public interests. We shall have at all events, the comfortable consciousness that we have endeavored honestly and faithfully to acquit ourselves of the trust reposed in us by our constituents.

For your kindness and considerate forbearance towards myself, whenever presiding over your deliberations, I beg you to accept my hearty thanks. I wish for each of you a safe return homeward, and may all happiness be yours through the future.

It remains for me, in obedience to a joint resolution of the two Houses, to pronounce this Senate adjourned sine die.
