No. 5 (S), A bill to establish a code of procedure in the Police Court of the City of Milwaukee; and

No. 1 (S), A joint resolution relative to instruction of Senators on Homestead Bill.

And after some time spent therein,

The committee rose, and by its Chairman, reported back to the Senate said Bill No. 20 (A), without amendment.

Also, No. 5 (S), without amendment, and recommended its reference to committee on Judiciary.

And J. R. No. 1 (S), with amendment.

Said bill No. 20 (A), was ordered read the third time.

Said bill No. 5 (S), was referred to committee on Judiciary. And the question being on concurring in the amendment made by the committee of the whole to said J. R. No. 1 (S),

Mr. Wakeley moved that said Joint Resolution be referred to the committee on Public Lands;

Which was disagreed to,

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Mr. Blair moved that the further consideration of said resolution be postponed two weeks,

Mr. Miller, from the Committee on Printing, on leave reported the following bills, which were severally read the 1st and 2d times.

No. 43 (S) A bill to appropriate to John Mitchel, the sum there in named.

No. 44 (S) A bill to appropriate to S. M. Booth, the sum therein named.

On motion of Mr. Hunter,

The Senate adjourned.

MONDAY, January 24, 1853.

The reading of the Journal of Saturday was dispensed with. Mr. Wakeley presented the accounts of C. F. Wakeley and D. K. Tenney against the State.

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Miller presented the petition of sundry inhabitants of Rock County to amend the laws relative to schools,

Which was referred to the committee on Education, School and University lands.

Bills were introduced and read the first and second times as follows:

By Mr. Sharpstein,

No. 45 (S), A bill making parties to suits competent witnesses in certain cases.

By Mr. Sterling,

No. 46 (S), A bill authorizing Thomas Mathews and Benjamin Smith to keep a ferry across the Wisconsin River.

By Mr. Wakeley,

No. 47 (S), A bill to amend Chapter one hundred and thirty one of the Revised Statutes.

By Mr. Vittum,

No. 48 (S), A bill to amend section one of chapter three hundred and ninety of the Session Laws of 1852.

By Mr. Smith, from the committee on claims,

No. 49 (S), A bill to appropriate to Geo. R. Stentz the sum therein named.

Said bill No. 47 was referred to the committee on Judiciary. Mr. Stewart from the committee on engrossed bills, reported as correctly engrossed:

No. 1 (S), A joint resolution relative to instruction on the Homestead bill.

Mr. Miller, from the committee on printing, made report as follows:

The committee on printing to whom was referred the resolution to print 5000 copies of the General Banking Law respectfully report the same back to the Senate with one amendment, to wit:

Resolved,-By the Senate, the Assembly concurring, that the State Printer be, and hereby is, authorised to print five thousand copies of the General Banking Law of this State, in pamphlet form, to be distributed under the direction of the Bank Comptroller.

Insert between the words "distributed" and "under" the following, as follows: 12 copies to each member of the legislature and the balance."

Which report was adopted.

E. MILLER, Ch'n of Committee.

Mr. Cary, from the select committee to whom had been referred No. 3 (S), made the following report:

The select committee to whom was referred, Senate bill No. 3. a bill to authorize the Racine, Janesville and Mississippi Railroad Company to construct their road in divisions and to connect the same with other roads have had the same under consideration and have instructed me to report the same back to the Senate and recommend its passage with the following amendment: Insert between lines seven and eight of printed bill, the words "west of the town of Linn in Walworth county.

Mr. Whittlesey moved to amend by striking out the words "instruction of Senators on,"

Which was agreed to.

And the title as amended was then agreed to.

Mr. McLane introduced the following resolution:

Resolved, That the Chief Clerk of the Senate be authorized to procure 500 copies of the township map of Wisconsin, by J. W. Hunt, for the use of the Senate, at a cost not exceeding 25 cts. per copy.

The Senate then resolved itself into committee of the whole for the consideration of

No. 1 (S), A memorial to the Post Office Department in relation to the increase of service on mail route No. 4575.

No. 11 (S), A bill to extend the time for the collection of taxes in the town of Oshkosh, Winnebago County.

No. 41 (S), A bill to appropriate money to pay the mileage of the members of the legislature,

And after some time spent therein,

The committee arose and by its chairman reported back to the Senate said bills Nos. 1 and 41 (S), without amendment, and said bill No. 11 (S) with an amendment,

And said bills No. 1 (S), and No. 41 (S), were read the third time and engrossed.

On motion of Mr. Bashford,

Said bill No. 11 (S), was laid upon the table.

The Senate then resolved itself into the committee of the whole for the consideration of,
