Mr. Sharpstein moved that the Senate adjourn to 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

There being a tie, the President gave the casting vote in the negative.

The reading of the Journal of yesterday was dispensed with.

Mr. Bovee presented the memorial of Andrew E. Elmore for compensation for his services as a member of the Legislative Assembly of 1842 and 1843,

Which was referred to the committee on Claims.

Mr. Hunter presented

The remonstrance of S. Mahler and 1500 others, against the passage of any bill prohibiting or punishing as criminal, the sale of vinous, spiritous or malt liquors,

Which was referred to select committee consisting of Messrs. Hunter, Reed and Allen.

Mr. Wiel presented

The petition of 500 names for amendment to the Milwaukee and Fond du Lac Roads,

Which was referred to the committee on Incorporations.

Mr. Hunter presented

The remonstrance of E. Bridgman and 38 others,

Which was referred to the Select Committee consisting of Messrs. Hunter, Reed and Allen.

Mr. Squires presented

The petition of Jas. Moore and 79 others for State road from Muscoda to Black River Falls,

Which was referred to the committee on Roads and Bridges. Bills were introduced and read the first and second times as follows:

Mr. Lewis, from the committee on Expiration and Re-enactment of Laws, to whom had been referred,

The petition of Abram Decker and 98 others, citizens of Washington County, asking for an alteration of the law in relation to the advertising for sale of lands for taxes,

Reported the same back to the Senate with the recommendation that the prayer of the petitioners be not granted,

Which report was concurred in.

No. 31 S., a bill to limit the rate of interest and to repeal certain acts therein named.

No. 60 S., a bill to provide for the punishment of persons con victed of larceny, and to repeal Sec. 15 & 16, of Chap. 134, of the Revised Statutes.

No. 77 S., a bill to repeal Sec. 82, of Chap. 98, of the Revised Statutes,

Reported adversely to the passage of said bills,

Mr. Dunn, from the same committee, to whom had been referred,

The petition of Harson Northrop and sundry others. for a law in relation to mortgages, and

The petition of W. Lyon and 125 others, citizens of Washington county, in relation to fees of certain county officers,

Reported that it was inexpedient to grant the prayer of the petitioners,

Which report was concurred in.

Mr. Dunn, from the same committee, to whom had been referred, No. 47 S., a bill to amend chapter one hundred and thirty one of the Revised Statutes,

Reported the same back to the Senate,

Without amendment.

Mr. Dunn, also, from the same committee, to whom had been referred,

No. 25 S., a bill to amend" an act to provide for the more speedy collection of fines, forfeitures and penalties, remaining in the hands of Justices of the Peace," approved Feb. 21st, 1851.

Reported the some back to the Senate, and recommended that said bill be amended by striking out the first section and inserting Sec. 1. That the act entitled "an act to provide for the more speedy collection and payment of fines, forfeitures and penalties remaining in the hands of Justice's of the Peace," approved Feb. 21, 1851, be, and the same is, hereby repealed; provided, that no proceedings already commenced under said act shall be affected by this repeal.

Amend the title thus: after 'to' strike out amend an' and insert 'repeal the.'

Mr. Wakeley, from the same committee, to whom had been referred,

No. 5 S.,a bill to establish a code of procedure in the Police Court of the city of Milwaukee,

Reported the same back to the Senate with the following report: The committee on the Judiciary to whom was referred Senate Bill No. 5, recommend its passage, with the following amendments, reference being made to the printed bill.
