MESSAGE

From the Assembly by its Chief Clerk:

Mr. PRESIDENT,-The Assembly has passed

No. 38 A., a bill to amend an act entitled "an act to incorporate the Milwaukee and Fond du Lac Railroad Company, and.. No. 5 A., a memorial to Congress for a Mail Route. In which the concurrence of the Senate is requested. I am also directed to present for your signature, Joint Resolution relative to the Homestead Bill.

An act to appropriate money to the Members and Officers of the Legislature.

An act appropriating to E. B. Quiner the sum therein named. An act to extend the time for the collecting of taxes in the town of Dane, county of Dane.

An act to appropriate to the Members of the Legislature, à certain sum of money as mileage.

An act to amend Section 15 of an act entitled "an act to incorporate the Sheboygan and Mayville Plank Road Company."

An act to authorize the Secretary of State to audit certain ae counts, and providing for the payment thereof.

An act to change the name of Lewis Frederick Dengell to Lewis Frederick Schneider, and

Memorial to Congress for a Mail Route,

Which have been signed by the Speaker of the Assembly. Said bill No. 38 A., and said memorial No. 5 A., were severally read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Blair,

Said bill No. 38 A., was referred to the committee on Incorpora

tions.

Mr. Hunter moved that the Senate adjourn until next Monday.

And the ayes and noes having been called for,

Those who voted in the affirmative were,

Messrs. Allen, Blair, Bovee, Bowen, Dunn, Hunter, Reed, Sharpstein, Smith, Squires and Vittum.-11.

Those who voted in the negative were,

Messrs. Alban, Bashford, Briggs, Cary, Lewis, Miller, Pinkney, Prentice, Wakeley, Whittlesey and Wiel.-11.

There being a tie, the President gave the casting vote in the affirmative, and declared the Senate adjourned till next Monday morning at 10 o'clock, 4. M.

The reading of the Journal of yesterday was dispensed with. Mr. Reed presented the account of Campbell, Brusk & Co., against the State,

Mr. Bashford presented the petition of Charles Ford, H. K. Raymond and 640 others, citizens (590 of whom are legal voters) of the county of Winnebago, for a law similar to the Maine Liquor Law,

Which was referred to a select committee, consisting of Messrs. Bashford, Briggs and Allen.

Mr. Miller presented the petition of 150 ladies of the county of Rock,

Also,

The petition of A. K. Barret and 100 others,

Also.

Te petiiion of Collins P. Pratt and 25 others,

And,

The petition of Frederick Van Patten, Emeline Van Patten, Alfred I. Van Patten, Erancis Van Patten, Frederick P. Van Patten, Samuel R. Van Patten, Peter Van Patten, Magdaline Van Patten, and 50 others, citizens of Rock Co.,

For the passage of the Maine Liquor Law.

Said petitions were referred to the select committee on that subject.
