Washington and Newberg Plank and Turnpike Co., approved April 19, 1852.

An act to extend the time for the completion of a bridge across Platte River in Grant Co.

An act to amend an act entitled "an act to incorporate the Sheboygan and Mississippi Railroad Co.," approved March 8, 1852. An act to vacate a part of Water and Fifteenth streets, in the village and county of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

An act to appropriate inoney to pay the mileage of members of the Legislature, and

Joint Resolutions concerning the Meniminee tribe of Indians, Which have been signed by the Speaker of the Assembly. The Assembly has passed

No. 3 (A), a bill to incorporate the Green Bay and Minnesota Railroad Company.

No. 42 (A), a bill to revise, renew and amend an act entitled "an act to provide for a special tax for the improvement of the Manitowoc and Calumet Road," approved April 17, 1852.

No. 79 (A,, a bill to repeal an act establishing the town of Kossuth, approved April 17, 1852.

No. 66 (A), a bill authorizing the county of Brown to issue bonds for a purpose therein named.

No. 2 (A), memorial to Congress for a Mail Route, and

No. 3 (A), a memorial to Congress for a new land District.
In which the concurrence of the Senate is requested.

The Assembly has also passed

No: 1 (S), memorial to the Post office Department in relation to the increase of service on Mail Route No. 4575.

The said message was then taken up, and

Said bills Nos. 3, 42, 79 and 86 (A), and memorials No. 2 (A) and No. 3 (A), were severally read the first and second times.

On motion of Mr. Allen, said bill No. 3 (A), was referred to the committee on Incorporations.

No. 6 (A) a bill to incorporate the Marine, Fire and Life Insurance Company of Wisconsin,

Was read a third time,

And on motion of Mr. Hunter, laid on the table.

No. 7 (4), a bill to amend Sec. 15, of an act entitled “an act to incorporate the Sheboygan and Mayville Plank road Company," approved Feb. 9th, 1850, and

No. 13 (4), a bill to change the name of Lewis Frederic Dengel to Lewis Frederic Schneider,

Were severally read the third time, passed, and the title thereof agreed to.

No. 11, A, a bill to incorporate Symphony College,

Was read a third time, and

On motion of Mr. Wakeley, referred to the committee on Education, School and University Lands.

In committee of the whole for the consideration of

No. 39 A, a bill to authorize the erection of a dam across the Milwaukee river in Milwaukee county.

No. 60 A, a bill to establish a ferry across Chippewa river, and No. 65 A, a bill to repeal an act entitled an act in reference to appeals from Justices' Courts, approved April 16, 1852.

TUESDAY, February 1, 1853.

The reading of the Journal of yesterday was dispensed with. The following resolution, introduced yesterday by Mr. Whittlesey was taken up and adopted:

Resolved, That the Secretary of State is hereby requested to communicate to the Senate whether he has authenticated by his Official Certificate and the great seal of the State, since the last session of the Legislature, "Fox and Wisconsin improvement Scrip," to Morgan L. Martin. If so, what amount and in what form, and by what authority, and to furnish the Senate with a copy of the same.

Mr. Alban introduced the following joint preamble and resolu

tions:

Whereas, Projects are in contemplation for securing large grants of land in this State to incorporate Companies for the purpose of aiding in the making of Rail Roads; and whereas, we believe that the holding of large bodies of land by any such Company or Companies in this State would retard its settlement and growth and be injurious to its future interests,

Therefore, Be it Resolved, by the Senate, the Assembly concurring, that we utterly condemn the principle of granting by the General Government to any incorporated Company, any portion of the public domain for the purposes of Internal Improvement, and that we request our Senators and Representatives in Congress to oppose any such grants being made within the limits of this State.

Resolved, That a copy of this preamble and resolutions be forwarded by the Governor of this State to each of our Senators and Representatives in Congress.
