by a holy sfirit. 19 Then Josefh her husband, being a righteous man and not willing to eachose her to fublic shame, flurfiosed to flut her away firivately. 20 But after he had thought on these things, behold, an angel of the Lord affleared to him in a dream, saying, “Josefih, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife : for that which is conceived in her, is of a holy shirit. 21 And she shall bear a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus : that is, SAviour, for he shall save his fleofile from their sins.” 22 (Wow all this came to flass, so that the word of the Lord by the firoshhet was fulfilled, saying, 23 “ Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and his name shall be called Emanuel :” which, being interfireted, is, God with us.) 24 Then, Josefth, being raised from sleef, did as the angel of the Lord had commanded him, and took to him his wife ; 25 and knew her not till she had brought forth her first-born son ; and he called his name Jesus. II. 1 MOW after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea, in the days of king Herod, behold, Magians came from the east, to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is he that is born king of the Jews 2 jor we have seen his star in the east-country, and are come to do him obeisance.” 3 But when king Herod heard these things, he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him. 4 And when he had gathered together the chief firiests and scribes of the fieofile, he inquired of them where Christ was to be born. 5 And they said to him,

In Bethlehem of Judea : for thus it is written by the firoshhet: 6 : And thou, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, art by no means the least among the governors of Judah : for out of thee shall come a governor who shall rule my feofile Israel.’” 7 Then Herod having #rivately called the Magians, learnt from them exactly what time the star affleared. 8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “Go, make an exact inquiry about the child ; and, when ye have found him, inform me, that I also may come and do him obeisance.” 9 So having heard the king, they defiarted ; and, behold, the star, which they had seen in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over the filace where the child was. 10 Mnd seeing again the star, they rejoiced exceedingly. l l And being come into the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother, and fell down, and did him obeisance: and having of ened their treasures, they firesented to him gifts ; gold, and frankincense, and onyrrh. 12 And having been warned of God in a dream, that they should not return to Herod, they withdrew into their own country by another way. 13 WHEN they were gone, lo, a messenger of the Lord affleared to Josefth in a dream, saying, “...Arise, take the child and his mother, and flee into Egyfit, and remain there till I acquaint thee: for Herod will seek the child to destroy him.” 14 Then arising, he took the child and his mother by night, and withdrew into Egypt ; 15 and remained
