CHAPTER 259.

AN ACT to appropriate funds from the general fund of the state of Nebraska, for the purpose of providing transportation for surviving soldiers of the Civil War, residents of Nebraska, attending the National Memorial Reunion and Peace Jubilee to be held at the National Military Park at Vicksburg, Mississippi, in the month of October, 1917; for appointment of certain officers charged with the duty of carrying out the provisions of the Act and defining their duties and declaring an emergency.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

Section 1. G. A. R. reunion-appropriation for.-That there be and is hereby appropriated out of any funds in the Treasury not otherwise appropriated, the sum of Twenty Thousand Dollars, or so much thereof as shall be necessary for the payment of transportation, going to and returning from, the National Memorial Reunion and Peace Jubilee to be held by the "Blue and the Gray" within the Vicksburg National Park, Vicksburg, Mississippi, October 16, 17, 18 and 19, 1917, of such Union and Confederate veteran soldiers, sailors and marines who served in the Civil War of 1861 to 1865, who now reside in, or who have continuously resided in the state of Nebraska for a period of at least one year prior to the passage of this Act.

Sec. 2. Same.-Said appropriation to be expended under the supervision of a commission of three persons to be chosen by the Governor of Nebraska, said commission to be residents of Nebraska, and who served in the Civil War.

Sec. 3. How used. No part of said sum of Twenty Thou

sand Dollars shall be used for the payment of salaries, fees, commissions, or any purpose otherwise than is provided for in this Act; the sum allotted to such approved applicant shall consist of his actual transportation from his residence, or nearest railway station thereto, to Vicksburg, Mississippi and return, at the lowest rate obtainable.

Sec. 4. Who eligible for trip. That said commission appointed by the Governor, shall select a secretary who shall have served in the civil war, and all applications on behalf of veterans desiring to avail themselves of the provisions of this Act shall be made to said secretary, who together with said commis sion shall satisfy themselves as to the merits of such applicants, and who, upon finding that the applicants come within the provisions of this Act, shall arrange for the transportation and cause the same to be purchased for the round trip.

Sec. 5. Expenses.-The sum of Five Hundred Dollars, or so much thereof as is necessary, is hereby set aside out of said appropriation for use of said commission, and secretary, in providing and preparing proper blanks, postage and stationery necessary and incident to the carrying out of the purposes of this Act.

Whereas, an emergency exists, this Act shall take effect from and after its passage and approval by the Governor. Approved, April 9, 1917.

CHAPTER 260.

AN ACT to appropriate the sum of $12,000.00, or so much thereof as may be necessary, to purchase lands for the Hospital for the Insane of Nebraska at Norfolk, and to declare an emergency.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

Section 1. Appropriation for Norfolk insane hospital.That there be and is hereby appropriated out of the general fund of the State the sum of $12,000.00, or so much thereof as

may be necessary for the purchase of additional lands for the hospital for the Insane of Nebraska at Norfolk, such lands to be used for agricultural purposes.

Sec. 2. How expended.-That the sum herein appropriated shall be expended by and under the direction of the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions.

Sec. 3. Emergency.

That whereas, an emergency exists, this act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage and approval.

CHAPTER 261.

AN ACT to appropriate the sum of $15,770.60 for the salary of the Supreme Court Commission and Stenographer thereto from the 18th day of September, 1915, to the 1st day of April, 1917, and to declare an emergency.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

Section 1. Supreme court commission-appropriation.That there is hereby appropriated from the general fund the sum of $15,770.60 for the salary of members of the Supreme Court Commission and stenographer thereto, as compensation from the 18th day of September, 1915, to the first day of April, 1917, as follows:

Sec. 2. Warrants.-The Auditor of Public Accounts is hereby directed to draw his warrant for the above amounts upon presentation of voucher prepared and sworn to according to law.

Sec. 3. Emergency.-Whereas, an emergency exists, this act shall be in force from and after its passage and approval. Approved, March 13, 1917.

CHAPTER 262.

[Introduced by Messrs. LaBounty, Reynolds, Schwab, and Hoffmeister.] AN ACT to appropriate five thousand dollars for the purpose of aiding the Southwest Nebraska District Fair, located at Maywood.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

Section 1. Maywood fair-appropriation for. That there is hereby appropriated out of money in the Treasury of the State of Nebraska, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of five thousand dollars to be expended for the purchase of the land at Maywood, Nebraska, on which the buildings of the Southwest Nebraska District Fair are located and for other improvements on such land.

Sec. 2. How expended. The amount herein appropriated shall be expended under the supervision and direction of the Governor of this state; and the Auditor of public accounts is hereby authorized, and required, upon the presentation of the proper vouchers, to draw warrants on the general funds in the state treasury for the purposes herein set forth.

CHAPTER 263.

AN ACT to appropriate twelve thousand and five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be needed to purchase land in connection with the Nebraska Tuberculosis Hospital, at Kearney, Nebraska.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

hereby appropriated out of the state general fund the sum of twelve thousand and five hundred dollars, or so much thereof as may be needed to purchase land and property adjoining the Nebraska Tuberculosis Hospital, at Kearney, Nebraska.

Sec. 2. Same. This appropriation shall be to the state board of commissioners of state institutions and warrants to carry out the provisions of this act, not exceeding twelve thousand five hundred dollars shall be drawn by the auditor upon certificates persented by the board of commissioners of state institutions and warrants so drawn shall be paid by the state treasurer.

CHAPTER 264.

AN ACT making an appropriation for the use of and to be expended by the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions for the payment of indebtedness for current expenses and to meet and provide for existing and probable deficiencies in certain funds made by the 34th Session of the Legislature for the support and maintenance of different state institutions and for wages of employees and for other purposes, under the control of the said Board, for the biennial period expiring March 31st, 1917, and declaring an emergency.

Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Nebraska:

Section 1. State institutions maintenance. That the following sum or sums of money or so much thereof as may be necessary are hereby appropriated out of any money in the treasury belonging to the general fund and not otherwise appropriated, for the use of the Board of Commissioners of State Institutions for the payment of indebtedness and for the support and maintenance and for wages of employees of the Board and of the following institutions:
