Man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. St. Matt. iv. 4.

And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and they beat upon that house, and it fell not for it was founded upon a rock. Ver. 25.

And every one who heareth these my words, and doeth them not, shall be like a foolish man, who built his house upon the sand. Ver. 26.

Blessed are they who hear the word of God, and keep it. St. Luke xi. 28.

For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father

who sent me, he gave me command what I should say, and what I should speak. Ver. 49.

And I know that his commandment is life everlasting. The things, therefore, that I speak, even as the Father said unto me, so do I speak. Ver. 50.

If any one love me, he will keep my word; and my Father will love him, and we will come to him, and will make our abode with him. St. John xiv. 23.

Father, I have manifested thy name to the men whom thou hast given me out of the world. Thine they were: and to me thou gavest them: and they have kept thy word. St. John xvii. 6.

I have given them thy word. Ver. 14.

Sanctify them in truth: Thy word is truth. Ver. 17.

PATIENT ENDURANCE.

But I say to you, not to resist evil: but if any man strike thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. St. Matt. v. 39.

And if any man will go to law with thee, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. Ver. 40.

And whosoever shall force thee to go one mile, go with him other two. Ver. 42.

In

your patience you shall possess your souls. St. Luke xxi. 19.

Bring forth, therefore, fruit worthy of penance; and do not begin to say: We have Abraham for our father. For I say to you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children to Abraham. St. Luke iii. 8.

Wo to thee, Corozain, wo to thee, Bethsaida: for if in Tyre and Sidon had been wrought the mighty works that have been wrought in you, they would have done penance long ago, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. St. Luke x. 13.

Unless you do St. Luke xiii. 3.

I say to you, there shall be joy in heaven upon one sinner that doth penance, more than upon ninety-nine just, who need not penance. St. Luke xv. 7. ·

So, I say to you, there shall be joy before the angels of God upon one sinner doing penance. Ver. 10.

And you shall be hated by all men for my name's sake: but he that shall persevere unto the end, he shall be saved. St. Matt. x. 22.

The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. Ver. 24.

It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more them of his household? Ver. 25.
