3. The powers of darkness leagued in vain
To bind our Lord in death;
By His expiring breath.
Ascend the lofty skies;
Death's iron scepter lies.
And loud hosannas sung;
And praise on every tongue.
To hail this happy morn,
This day we call the Lord's;
For so His word records.
Their voices fill the sky;
And welcome Him on high.
May we their rapture feel;
And emulate their zeal.
Of Christ, our risen Lord-
Of Christ, th' incarnate word.
High on Thy throne above;
We'll sing Thy matchless love. KELLY.
Beheld our living God,
And leave His dark abode.
The dead Redeemer lay,
The third, th' appointed day.
To hold our Lord, in vain;
And burst their feeble chain.
These sacred hours we pay,
The triumph of the day.
To our victorious King !
Doxology. C. M.
One God, whom we adore,
And shall be evermore.
S. P. M.
“Come, let us seek our God to-day !"
And there our vows and honors pay.
2. Zion, thrice happy place,
And walls of strength embrace thee round.
The sacred Gospel's joyful sound.
To bless the soul of every guest :
A thousand blessings on him rest!
For here my friends and kindred dwell :
My soul shall ever love thee well.
S. P. M.
His head with awful glories crowned;
And rays of majesty around.
And skies and stars obey Thy word;
Eternal is Thy kingdom, Lord! '
Against Thine empire rage and roar;
And dash like waves against the shore.
4. Let floods and nations rage,
Let swelling tides assault the sky-
Thy throne forever stands on high.
There fixed, Thy church shall ne'er remove;
And sing Thine everlasting love. WATTS.
· S. M.
That saw the Lord arise,
And these rejoicing eyes.
And feasts His saints to-day;
And love, and praise, and pray. 3. One day, amid the place
Where God, my God, hath been,
Within the tents of sin.
In such a frame as this,
To everlasting bliss.
S. M. 1. BEHOLD, the morning sun
Begins his glorious way;
And life and light convey.
2. But where the Gospel comes,
And gives the blind their sight. 3. How perfect is Thy word!
And all Thy judgments just!
And we securely trust.
Are Thy directions given !
Thy glorious acts to sing,
And grateful offerings bring. 2. Sweet, at the dawning hour,
Thy boundless love to tell;
Still on the theme to dwell. 3. Sweet, on this day of rest,
To join in heart and voice
And in Thy name rejoice. 4. To songs of praise and joy
Be every Sabbath given,
Eternally in heaven. SPIRIT OF THE PSALMS,
Within the temple-door,
Shall throng the sacred floor.
