In 1791 he commenced the practice of that profession of which for thirty years he was a most distinguished ornament, and his renown as a surgeon was founded upon the promptitude and success of his operations. As a lithotomist he was particularly celebrated. It is stated that of sixty-five operations in his hands for the stone, three only proved fatal.
