CONTRARY to the determination intimated at the close of the last Volume, the Editor of the Christian Gleaner has been conducted through the labours of another year, and now feels herself called upon to state to the public, and especially to those friends who so kindly came forward to stimulate and encourage her continued exertions, the circumstances in which she is placed. At their suggestion the price was advanced, and through their exertions the circulation has been increased. The actual loss sustained has consequently been considerably less than in former years-about one half. The difference, however, between the receipts and expenditure has, even this year, fully reached the amount guaranteed by a few generous individuals. Yet the Editor shrinks from calling upon them to make good their engagements, and begs to suggest, as far more congenial with her feelings, if equally agreeable to them, that they should reduce the loss of former years by taking the amount of their respective engagements |
