ADDRESS TO OUR READERS.
The year has been most remarkable in its effects on the progress of the principles of religious freedom in England. The events as they have occurred have been fully commented on in our usual monthly record: it is enough here to say, that the year has been most encouraging to all lovers of religious equality. We trust that those who have carried on so well the struggle which past years handed down to us so sacredly, will be sustained in their future efforts, so that triumph may soon be their reward.
Denominational matters call at present for little special remark. The new effort which has been suggested as likely to aid in denominational extension and improvement will be found referred to on another page. We can only say, that our attachment to our denomination increases with every year in which we are identified with it, and labour for it. More and more important do our principles appear to us as essential to the consistent maintenance of ecclesiastical freedom and christian truth. We trust that our friends are not too partial who assure us that our own efforts are not without their effect in elevating and strengthening the denomination, and in the higher work of extending and impressing christian principle on the minds of thousands. May we, and all who are labouring in the Master's vineyard, have, next year, and as long as he permits us to work for Him, his presence and his ever-needed aid!
