And thofe that fee thy wondrous ways
Thy wondrous love record.

PSALM CVII. Laft Part.

Colonies planted: or, Nations bleft and punished. A Pfalm for New England.

WH

7HEN God, provok'd with daring crimes,
Scourges the madnefs of the times,

He turns their fields to barren fand,
And dries the rivers from the land.

2 His word can raife the fprings again,
And make the wither'd mountains green,
Send fhow'ry bleffings from the skies,
And harvests in the defart rise.

3 [Where nothing dwelt but beafts of prey,
Or men as fierce and wild as they;

He bids th' opprest and poor repair,

And builds them towns and cities there.
4 They fow the fields, and trees they plant,
Whole yearly fruit fupplies their want:
Their race grows up from fruitful stocks,
Their wealth increafes with their flocks.

5 Thus they are bleft; but if they fin,
He lets the heathen nations in,
A favage crew invades their lands,
Their princes, die by barb'rous hands,
6 Their captive fons expos'd to fcorn,
Wander unpity'd and forlorn:
The country lyes unfenc'd, untill'd,
And defolation fpreads the field.
Yet if the humbled nation mourns,
Again his dreadful hand he turns;

Again he makes their cities thrive,
And bids the dying churches live.]
8 The righteous with a joyful sense,
Admire the works of providence;
And tongues of atheists shall no more
Blafpheme the God that faints adore.
9 How few with pious care record
Thefe wondrous dealings of the Lord:
But wife obfervers ftill fhall find
The Lord is holy, just, and kind.

PSALM CIX. Ver. 1,-5, 31.
Love to enemies from the example of Chrift.
OD of my mercy and my praise,

G Thy glory is my fong;

Tho' finners speak against thy grace
With a blafpheming tongue.

2 When in the form of mortal man
Thy Son on earth was found,
With cruel flanders falfe and vain,
They compafs'd him around.

3 Their mis'ries his compaffion move,
. Their peace he still purfa'd;
They render hatred for his love,
And evil for his good.

Their malice rag'd without a caufe,
Yet with his dying breath,
He pray'd for my d'rers on kis cross,
And bleft his foes in death.

5 Lord, fhall thy bright example fhine
In vain before my eyes?

Give me a foul a-kin to thine,
To love mine enemies.

The Lord fhall on my fide engage,
And in my Saviour's name

I fhall defeat their pride and rage
Who flander and condemn.

PSALM CX. First Part. Long Metre.

Thrift exalted, and multitudes converted; or, The
Success of the Gofpel.

HUS the eternal Father spake

TH

To Chrift the fon; " Afcend and fit "At my right hand, till I fhall make "Thy foes fubmiffive at thy feet. 2 "From Zion fhall thy word proceed, "Thy word, the fceptre in thy hand, "Shall make the hearts of rebels bleed "And bow their wills to thy command.

3

"That day shall fhew thy pow'r is great,
"When faints fhall flock with willing minds,'
"And finners croud thy temple-gate,
"Where holiness in beauty fhines."

4 O blessed pow'r ! O glorious day!
What a large vict'ry fhall enfue!
And converts who thy grace obey,
Exceed the drops of morning dew.

PSALM CX Second Part. Long Metre.
The kingdom and priesthood of Christ.

HUS the great Lord of earth and fea
Spake to his Son, and thus he fwore;

TH

"Eternal fhall thy priesthood be, "And change from hand to hand no more. 2" Aaron and all his fons muft die: “But everlasting life is thine,

"To fave for ever those that fly
"For refuge from the wrath divine.

By me Melchifedek was made "On earth a king and priest at once; "And thou, my heav'nly Priest, shalt plead, "And thou, my King, shalt rule my fons. 4 Jefus the priest afcends his throne, While counfels of eternal peace,

Between the Father and the Son,
Proceed with honour and fuccefs.

S Thro' the whole earth his reign fhall spread,
And crush the pow'rs, that dare rebel;
Then fhall he judge the rifing dead,
And fend the guilty world to hell.

6 Tho' while he treads his glorious way,
He drinks the cup of tears and blood,
The fuff'rings of that dreadful day
Shall but advance him near to God.

PSALM

CX.

Common Metre.

Chrift's kingdom and priesthood.
JESUS, our Lord, afcend thy throne,
And near thy Father fit:

JE

In Zion fhall thy pow'r be known,
And make thy foes fubmit,

2 What wonders fhall thy gofpel do!
Thy converts fhall furpafs

The num'rous drops of morning-dew
And own thy fov'reign grace.

3 God hath pronounc'd a firm decree,
Nor changes what he fwore;
"Eternal fhall thy priesthood be,
"When Aaron is no more.

4 "Melchifedek that wond'rous priest, "That king of high degree,

"That holy man who Abraham bleft
"Was but a type of thee."

5 Jefus our priest for ever lives,
To plead for us above:
Jefus our king for ever gives
The bleffings of his love.

6 God fhall exalt his glorious head
And his high throne maintain,
Shall strike the pow'rs and princes dead
Who dare oppose his reign.

PSALM CXI. First Part.
The wifdom of God in his works.
ONGS of immortal praife belong
To my almighty God:

He has my heart, and he my tongue,

To fpread his name abroad.

2 How great the works his hand has wrought!
How glorious in our fight!
And men in ev'ry age have fought
His wonders with delight.

3

How moft exact is nature's frame!
How wife th' Eternal mind!
His counfels never change the fcheme
That his first thoughts defign'd.

4 When he redeem'd his chofen fons,
He fix'd his cov'nant fure:
The orders that his lips pronounce
To endless years endure.

Nature and time, and earth and fkies,
Thy heav'nly kill proclaim:
