zo There fhips divide their watry way,
And flocks of fcaly monfters play;
There dwells the huge Leviathan,
And foams and sports in fpite of man.

PAUSE III.

21 Vaft are thy works, almighty Lord, All nature refts upon thy word,

1

And the whole race of creatures ftands, Waiting their portion from thy hands. 22 While each receives his diff'rent food, Their chearful looks pronounce it good: Eagles and bears, and whales and worms Rejoice and praile in diff'rent forms.

23 But when thy face is hid they mourn,
And dying to their duft return;

Both man and beaft their fouls refign:
Life, breath, and fpirit, all is thine.

24. Yet thou canft breath on duft again,
And fill the world with beafts and men;
A word of thy creating breath-
Repairs the waftes of time and death.

25 His works, the wonders of his might,
Are honour'd with his own delight:
How awful are his glorious ways!
The Lord is dreadful in his praife.

26 The earth ftands trembling at thy ftroke,
And at thy touch the mountains smoke;
Yet humble fouls may fee thy face,
And tell their wants to fov'reign grace.

27 In thee my hopes and wishes meet,
And make my meditations fweet;

Thy praises fhall my breath employ,
Till it expire in endless joy.
28 While haughty finners die accurft,
Their glory bury'd with their duft,
I to my God, my heav'nly king,
Immortal hallelujahs fing.

PSALM CV. Abridged.

God's conduct of Ifrael, and the plagues of Egypt. IVE thanks to God, invoke his name, And tell the world his grace;

G

Sound thro' the earth his deeds of fame,
That all may feek his face.

2 His cov❜nant, which he kept in mind
For num'rous ages paft,

To num'rous ages yet behind,
In equal force fhall laft.

3 He fware to Abraham and his feed,
And made the bleffing fure:
Gentiles the antient promife read,
And find his truth endure.

4" Thy feed fhall make all nations bleft,"
(Said the Almighty voice)

To give them Canaan's land,

grace!

When they were ftrangers in the place,

A little feeble band!

Like pilgrims thro' the countries round

Securely they remov'd;

And haughty kings, that on them frown'd,
Severely he reprov'd.

"Touch mine anointed, and my arm

"The man that does my prophets harm,
"Shall know their God is ftrong."

Nor put the church in fear :

PAUSE I.

When Pharaoh dar'd to vex the faints,
And thus provok'd their God,

Mofes was fent at their complaints,
Arm'd with his dreadful rod.

10 He call'd for darkness, darkness came
Like an o'erwhelming flood;"
He turn'd each lake and ev'ry stream
To lakes and ftreams of blood.

11 He gave the fign, and noifome flies
Thro' the whole country fpread;
And frogs, in croaking armies, rife
About the monarch's bed.

12 Thro' fields, and towns, and palaces,
The ten-fold veng'ance flew :

Locufts in fwarms devour'd their trees,
And hail their cattle flew.

13 Then by an angel's midnight stroke,
The flower of Egypt dy'd;

The ftrength of ev'ry house was broke,
Their glory and their pride.

14 Now let the world forbear its rage,
Nor put the church in fear.

Ifra'l must live thro' ev'ry age,
And be th' Almighty's care.
PAUSE II.

15 Thus were the tribes from bondage brought,
And left the hated ground;
Each fome Egyptian spoils had got,
And not one feeble found.

16 The Lord himself chofe out their way,
And mark'd their journies right,
Gave them a leading cloud by day,
A fiery guide by night.

17 They thirst; and waters from the rock
In rich abundance flow,

And following ftill the courfe they took
Ran all the defart thro'.

18 O wondrous ftream! O bleffed type-
Of ever flowing grace!

So Chrift our rock maintains our life
Thro' all this wildernefs.

19 Thus guarded by th' Almighty's hand,
The chofen tribes poffeft
Canaan the rich, the promis'd land,
And there enjoy'd their rest.

20 Then let the world forbear its rage,
The church renounce her fear:
Ifra'l must live thro' ev'ry age,
And be th' Almighty's care.

PSALM CVI. 1-5. First part.

Praife to God; or, Communion with Saints.

T

O God the great, the ever bleft,
Let fongs of honour be addreft:

His mercy firm for ever ftands;

Give him the thanks his love demands.

2 Who knows the wonders of thy ways?
Who fhall fulfil thy boundless praife?
Bleft are the fouls that fear thee still,
And pay their duty to thy will.
3 Remember what thy mercy did
For Jacob's race, thy chofen feed;
And with the fame falvation blefs
The meaneft Lippliant of thy grace,
4 O may I fee thy tribes rejoice,
And aid their triumphs with my voice!
This is my glory, Lord, to be
Join'd to thy faints, and near to thee.

love,

OD of eternal love,
How fickle are our ways!
And yet how oft did Ifra❜l prove
Thy conftancy of grace!

2 They faw thy wonders wrought,
And then thy praise they fung;
But foon thy works of pow'r forgot,
And murmur'd with their tongue.
3 Now they believe his word,
While rocks with rivers flow;
Now with their luft provoke the Lord,.
And he reduc'd them low.

4 Yet when they mourn'd their faults,
He hearken'd to their groans,
