MARK XIV. 63–72.-xv. 1—4.

Then the High Priest rent his clothes, and saith, What need we any further witnesses?

VER. 64. Ἠκούσατε τῆς βλασφημίας· τί ὑμῖν φαίνεται; Οἱ δὲ πάντες κατέκριναν αὐτὸν εἶναι ἔνοχον θανάτου.

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

VER. 65.

Καὶ ἤρξαντό τινες ἐμπτύειν αὐτῷ, καὶ περικαλύπτειν τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ, καὶ πολαφίζειν αὐτὸν, καὶ λέγειν αὐτῷ· Προφήτευσον· καὶ οἱ ὑπηρέται ῥαπίσμασιν αὐτὸν ἔβαλλον.

And some began to spit on him, and to cover his face, and to buffet him, and to say unto him, Prophesy: and the servants did strike him with the palms of their hands.

Καὶ ἐκ δευτέρου ἀλέκτωρ ἐφώνησε. Καὶ ἀνεμνήσθη ὁ Πέτρος τοῦ ῥήματος οὗ εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς· Ὅτι πρὶν ἀλέκτορα φωνή σαι δὶς, ἀπαρνήσῃ με τρίς. Καὶ ἐπιβαλὼν, ἔκλαιε.

And the second time the cock erew. And Peter called to mind the word that Jesus said unto him, Before the cock crow twice thou shalt deny me thrice. And *when he thought thereon, he wept. * Or, he wept abundantly, or, he beto gan weep.

CHAP. XV.-VER. 1.

Καὶ εὐθέως ἐπὶ τὸ πρωΐ συμβούλιον ποιήσαντες οἱ ̓Αρχιερεῖς μετὰ τῶν Πρεσβυτέρων καὶ Γραμματέων, καὶ ὅλον τὸ συνέδριον, δήσαντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν ἀπήνεγκαν, καὶ παρέδωκαν τῷ Πιλάτῳ.

a And straightway in the morning the Chief Priests held a consultation with the elders and Scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

Καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν ὁ Πιλάτος· Σὺ εἶ ὁ βασιλεὺς τῶν Ἰουδαίων; Ὁ δὲ ἀποκρι θεὶς, εἶπεν αὐτῷ· Σὺ λέγεις.

And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.

VER. 3.

Καὶ κατηγόρουν αὐτοῦ οἱ ̓Αρχιερεῖς

πολλά.

a And the Chief Priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing. a See on Matt. xxvii. ver. 12-14. VER. 4.

Ὁ δὲ Πιλάτος πάλιν ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτὸν, λέγων· Οὐκ ἀποκρίνῃ οὐδὲν ; ἴδε πόσα σου καταμαρτυροῦσιν.

VER. 28.

A. D. 33.

Καὶ ἐπληρώθη ἡ γραφὴ ἡ λέγουσα· Καὶ μετὰ ἀνόμων ἐλογίσθη.

a And the Scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

a Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors, Isa. liii. 12. For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in mè, And he was reckoned among the transgressors, Luke xxii. 37.

VER. 29.

Καὶ οἱ παραπορευόμενοι ἐβλασφήμουν αὐτὸν, κινοῦντες τὰς κεφαλὰς αὑτῶν, καὶ λέγοντες· Οὐαὶ, ὁ καταλύων τὸν ναὸν, καὶ ἐν τρισὶν ἡμέραις οἰκοδομῶν,

And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

VER. 30.

Σῶσον σεαυτὸν, καὶ κατάβα ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ.

Save thyself, and come down from the

cross.

VER. 31.

Ομοίως δὲ καὶ οἱ ̓Αρχιερεῖς ἐμπαίζον τες πρὸς ἀλλήλους μετὰ τῶν Γράμμα τέων, ἔλεγον. "Αλλους ἔσωσεν, ἑαυτὸν οὐ δύναται σῶσαι.

Likewise also the Chief Priests, mock ing, said among themselves with the Scribes, He saved others ; himself he can

not save.

VER. 32.

Ὁ Χριστὸς ὁ βασιλεὺς τοῦ Ἰσραὴλ και ταβάτω νῦν ἀπὸ τοῦ σταυροῦ, ἵνα ἴδωμεν καὶ πιστεύσωμεν. Καὶ οἱ συνεσταυρωμένοι | αὐτῷ ἀνείδιζον αὐτόν.

Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified

with him reviled him.

VER. 33.

Γενομένης δὲ ὥρας ἕκτης, σκότος ἐγένετο ἐφ' ὅλην τὴν γῆν, ἕως ὥρας ἐννάτης.

There were also women looking on afur off; among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less, and of Joses, and Salome ;

VER. 41.

Αἳ καὶ ὅτε ἦν ἐν τῇ Γαλιλαίᾳ, ἠκολούθουν αὐτῷ, καὶ διηκόνουν αὐτῷ· καὶ ἄλλαι πολλαὶ αἱ συναναβᾶσαι αὐτῷ εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα.

a (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him and ministered unto him ;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

a And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, and Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance, Luke viii. 2, 3.
