The FREIGHT TRAFFIC RED BOOK A Practical Reference Book for those actively engaged in Traffic of Freight Transportation UNIV. OF Compiled and Edited HARRY G. WILLIAMS AND CHARLES J. FAGG Price $6.00 PUBLISHED BY THE TRAFFIC PUBLISHING CO. 150 LAFAYETTE STREET NEW YORK 1922 EDITION AMBORLIAD COPYRIGHT, 1921, BY THE TRAFFIC PUBLISHING COMPANY EASTERN PRINTING COMPANY NEW YORK HE2855 PREFACE The many comments received from the subscribers to the First Edition of THE FREIGHT TRAFFIC RED BOOK prove that the book is filling a long-felt need in the transportation field. It has not been the purpose to prepare an extensive treatise on any of the subjects embraced herein, nor to offer any new idea for solving the many complex problems of the transportation business. It has been the purpose to give in a brief but comprehensive form the fundamental principles of freight transportation as thus far developed, together with the present laws, rules and practices governing. the operation of our great transportation system-all under one cover and in a form that makes it a truly ready-reference book for the busy traffic man.: In preparing a book of this nature on subjects that are so materially affected by the constantly changing laws, rules and practices, it was necessary, in order to treat each subject in an authoritative manner, to procure the assistance of many practical traffic men who are authorities in their respective branches of the traffic field. Grateful acknowledgment, therefore, is made to the railroad and industrial traffic executives who gave us constructive suggestions, criticisms and other valuable assistance in the preparation of this book. It is the plan to reissue THE FREIGHT TRAFFIC RED BOOK once each year, on or about October 1st. Supplements necessitated by any changes in any of the sections of this edition will be issued up to October 1, 1922, and sent to all subscribers free of charge. As it is desired to have THE FREIGHT TRAFFIC RED BOOK continue to increase in circulation and in usefulness as a ready-reference book for all engaged or interested in transportation work, we hope to be able each year to add new sections. This can best be accomplished by suggestions from subscribers as to what in their opinion would make the book more serviceable to them. Therefore, constructive. criticisms and suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |
