13 To me yet was his Love engag'd,
His Brow with fofter Glory fhin'd;
He fav'd me from the Gulphs enrag'd,
And all the greedy Floods combin❜d.
14 His gracious Arm ftill refcues me
From all my Foes' infulting Hate;
That Arm, which me alone can free,
And their prevailing Force abate.

15 Their Rage my faddeft Moments watch'd,
But GOD was then my Guard, my Stay;
He lov'd, He lov'd my Soul, and snatch'd
From hungry Jaws the fainting Prey.

PART IV.

16 JUST are thy Ways, and true thy Word,
Great Rock of my fecure Abode:
Who is a God befide the LORD?
Or where's a Refuge like our GOD?

17 'Tis He that girds me with his Might,
Gives me his holy Sword to wield;
And while with Sin and Hell I fight,
Spreads his Salvation for my Shield.

18 He lives (and bleffed be my Rock), The GOD of my Salvation lives:

[ocr errors]

The dark Designs of Hell are broke;
Sweet is the Peace my FATHER gives.

19 Before the Scoffers of the Age,

I will exalt my FATHER'S Name;
Nor tremble at their mighty Rage,
But meet Reproach, and bear the Shame.

20 To David and his royal Seed Thy Grace for ever fhall extend:

I

Thy Love to Saints in CHRIST their Head,
Knows not a Limit, nor an End.

PSALM XIX.

Metre i.

EHOLD the lofty Sky

BE Declares its Maker GOD,

And all his ftarry Works on high
Proclaim his Pow'r abroad.

2 The Darkness and the Light
Still keep their Course the fame;
While Night to Day, and Day to Night,
Divinely teach his Name.

In ev'ry diffrent Land

Their gen'ral Voice is known; They fhew the Wonders of his Hand,

And Orders of his Throne.

His Laws are juft and pure,
His Truth without Deceit,

His Promises for ever fure,
And his Rewards are great.

Not Honey to the Taste
Affords fo much Delight,

Nor Gold that has the Furnace pafs'd
So much allures the Sight.

6 While of thy Works I fing,
Thy Glory to proclaim,

Accept the Praife, my GoD, my KING,
In my REDEEMER'S Name."

PART II.

BEHOLD the Morning Sun
Begins his glorious Way;
His Beams through all the Nations run,
And Life and Light convey.

But where the Gospel comes,
It spreads diviner Light;

It calls dead Sinners from their Tombs,
And gives the Blind their Sight.

How perfect is thy Word!
And all thy Judgments juft:
For ever fure thy Promife, LORD,
And Men fecurely trust.

10 I hear thy Word with Love,
And I would fain obey;

Send thy good Spirit from above,
To guide me, left I ftray.

I I Warn me of ev'ry Sin;
Forgive my fecret Faults;

And cleanfe this guilty Soul of mine,
Whose Crimes exceed my Thoughts.

12

While with my Heart and Tongue
I spread thy Praise abroad;

Accept the Worship and the Song,
My SAVIOUR and my GOD!

PSALM

1 THE

XIX. Metre ii.

HE Heav'ns declare thy Glory, Lord,
In ev'ry Star thy Wisdom fhines:
But when our Eyes behold thy Word,
We read thy Name in fairer Lines.

2 The rolling Sun, the changing Light,
And Nights and Days thy Pow'r confefs;
But the bleft Volume Thou haft writ
Reveals thy Juftice and thy Grace.

3 Sun, Moon, and Stars, convey thy Praife
Round the whole Earth, and never stand:
So when thy Truth began its Race,
It touch'd, and glanc'd on ev'ry Land.
4 Nor fhall thy fpreading Gospel reft,
Till thro' the World thy Truth has run:
Till CHRIST has all the Nations bleft
That fee the Light, or feel the Sun.

5

Great SUN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, arise, Blefs the dark World with heav'nly Light; Thy Gospel makes the Simple wife, Thy Laws are pure, thy Judgments right. 6 Thy noblest Wonders here we view In Souls renew'd, and Sins forgiv'n; LORD, cleanse my Sins, my Soul renew, And make thy Word my Guide to Heav'n.

PSALM XIX. Metre iii,

I THE fpacious Firmament on high,
THE
HE fpacious Firmament on
with all the blue ethereal Sky,
And fpangled Heav'ns, a thining Frame,
Their great Original proclaim:

2 Th' unweary'd Sun, from Day to Day,
Does his Creator's Pow'r display ;
And publifhes to ev'ry Land,
The Work of an Almighty Hand.

3 Soon as the Ev'ning Shades prevail,
The Moon takes up the wondrous Tale,
And nightly, to the lift'ning Earth,
Repeats the Story of her Birth:

4 While all the Stars that round her burn,
And all the Planets in their Turn,
Confirm the Tidings as they roll,
And spread the Truth from Pole to Pole.
5 What though, in folemn Silence, All
Move round the dark terreftrial Ball?
What though nor real Voice nor Sound
Amid their radiant Orbs be found?

6 In Reason's Ear they all rejoice,
And utter forth a glorious Voice,
For ever finging, as they fhine,

"The HAND that made Us is DIVINE.'

PSALM XIX.

Metre iv.

NOD the Heav'ns aloud proclaim

G Through their wide extended Frame,

And the Firmament each Hour

Speaks the Wonders of his Pow'r.

2 Night to Night, and Day to Day, Joys the Notice to convey;

Earth the Heav'n-taught Knowledge boasts Through her many-languag'd Coafts.

3 While the Sun above her Head
Sees his Tabernacle spread,

And from out his Chamber bright,
Like a Bridegroom, fprings to Sight.
